    Default Mobil 1 - 10w30 - Fully Synthetic

have a mate that can get hold of some
    MOBIL1 10w30 fully synthetic oil in a 20L drum for $300,
and some MOBIL1 0w40 fully synthetic same price,
and MOBIL SynthS (SuperS - same thing) 10w40 semi synthetic in a 20L drum for $100.
and im just wondering if people recommend running fully synthetic in an sv6? if this a good price? and if it is, is anyone else interested? BRISBANE AREA

    according to: http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/mobil_au/
they say the 10w30 is best suited for the v6 (95- on) and v8 (5.7L - on) holden motors

    here are the data sheets

Mobil1 10w/30 will be fine for a VZ sv6. Mobil website even recommends 10w/30 for a VS ecotec. I've tried it in my VS but ecotec's are old pushrod technology and the 30 is a bit thin. But for a VZ it will be good. 0w/40 is usually recommended for european engines and cold snow weather starting. Probably why it's hard to buy Mobil1 0w/40 in Aussie stores.

Depends on what grade of mobil1 you buy. In Supercheap Five litres of 5w/50 is $65. Five litres of 10w/30 is $81.

At the end of the day, as long as you change it at 5,000km intervals, it doesn't matter what brand of oil you use. The important thing is changing it at 5,000km intervals. The 15,000km Holden specifies for the VZ V6 engine is absolutely ridiculous.

If you really want your engine to last, you should change the oil at 5,000km intervals and the filter at 10,000km intervals.

If people are using 10w-30 in their LS1's well then their engine wont last too long

Why? I use it, because it's what the book says to use. I change it every 5,000km anyway.

Just came back from a 1,900km trip with no discernible oil usage - according to the dipstick.

At work we use Mobil SuperS In most cars. Most oils described in the manual for the particular car are fine as long as they're checked and changed at the right service intervals.

I think there is more hype surrounding some oils than facts, older cars simply don't need top notch super expensive oils like Mobil 1.

    Just follow the manuals/manufacturer recommendations.

The reason the book says to use it is because it helps fuel economy. try using 10w 60, not many mechanics will suggest anything else.

I could not agree with Minux more on this! 10w-30 would be like sewing machine oil at normal operating temperature. Nowhere near enough protection for a big cubed engine.

Brand isn't (as) important but viscousity is. 10w-30 is too thin end of story.

If you think Mobil1 is too thin even for a VZ SV6 then why not try Nulon 10w/40. It's fully synthetic too.

Do you think 10w/40 is ok for a VN V6? I have been using it since i have got my car. It seems ok.

I have just switched to this after years with valvoline, i love valvoline, however with switching jobs i no longer get the discounts nor the oil sample tests. Looking forward to see how it goes.
