G-day everyone thought i would make a thread where you can tell us "What you like about your car and what made you buy it" Cheers steve P.
Mine caught my eye at metro holden and being black and a clubby i just had to have a little look, as i looked closer it was 6 speed "You ripper" and all stock (not played with) the general condition was gooood and will be a classic in time if looked after and i just like the shape of the vt-vx. as the saying goe's I JUST WANT ONE. so i did.![]()

wish i could afford a R8
Yep... If i had the money i'd buy one too
Hmm well i always loved the VN/VP shape... I came across mine which was a Berlina and had full electrics which is rare... It was in great condition inside and out and had been resprayed so the paint was in top condition... So I couldnt help but buy it... N its come a long way since![]()
5sp vn that was in good condition so i got itTook me ages to find one in good condition but was worth the wait. So much better then auto.
Australia. Love it or leave it
Found mine on ebay. It had $1200 buy it now on it and only one photo with only a short description about it(they hadnt put too much effort into the ebay listing). I figured it was worth the punt, so I bought it for $1200. I wasnt expecting too much out of it for that price but I was surprised that it was in good condition inside and out except for peeling clearcoat on the roof and I got a wad of receipts totaling about $11000 for money spent on the car(it used to belong to an apprentice mechanic at a Holden dealership). The only problems ive had with the car are a blown radiator hose and the front end damage when someone else crashed into it.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
vl's..... Very Low and Sleek - is what i think when the word vl is mentioned
well i have liked the shape of the vl for a long time, just the low sleek front and the little suttle kick on the boot made it a nice looker for me,
when i first bought my vl i knew nothing about the motor or car, just only that the vl i had bought was 5spd, lowered and freshly resprayed in midnight blue, was so clean and nice only to be written of from inexpericance and not being able to correct the car when it slid out, (not trying to drift or was not hooning)
i was drawn back to my current vl after looking for a new car,
i was looking at a vs but i could not just slip away from the looking style of the vls.
when i found my current car there was also a executive vl wagon next to it for sale, but after alot of thinking i chose the sedan (berlina) as the boot kick just made the 'icing on the cake' so to speak

Was looking at a wagon to carry around PA gear in and was leaning towards a Commodore but didn't want anything too flash as the cargo area would get a battering.
Then one night was surfing the net and found a dirt cheap VN with everything i needed on it (well almost everything but don't use cruise control much anyway ATM) so got back into Commodore ownership and as an added bonus it was red which matched in with my previous cars..
Great car, still doesn't owe me anything in terms of it's market value and what I've spent on it..
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
My friend Nicole, not Vlfury, but a different Nicole, had Ruby since 2001. When she bought her new car last year, a 2006 Subaru Impreza, Ruby went up for sale.
I knew Nic had always kept Ruby well maintained and regularly serviced. And the 157,000k's on her when I bought her were genuine. So those few good points, and plus the fact, Nic said I could have her for $2,000. Pay a grand and take her, and pay the rest later on.
That was back in October, and Ruby hasn't missed a beat yet. I love her. She's my little beast.![]()

Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Well I always wanted a VT of my own since my dad had one way back in '99. Always loved the shape of them. Was hoping I could get a VT exec for my first car... Came across a Calais instead... A series 2 as well, fell in love pretty much straight away! Also its not the most common colour (pretty common, but not the most common!!) so I liked that too.
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

VT Calais II... The Italian Stallion
What do you like about your car and what made you buy it?
Well it was cheap ($600), it ran, it was on gas and was where I was looking.
Cost me $15.00 for a brake booster grommet and an oil filler cap and $0.00 for a hose from my shed. That fixed the stalling, the gas system and the idle problem.
I have spent a further $61.00 on it for a CAS ($30.00), leads ($30.00) and a Calais grille ($1.00)
Never
$50.00 paid for each answer to a post of mine.
Please note cheques will not be honoured
i always liked the look of the vps. also when i was a little kid all i wanted was a dark blue car, also the price was un beatable with only 110,000 on the clock.
well the VK Calais sold me on their square tough looking stance, comfy as interiors, & digi-dashes!!! Pity about the 202's...
The VN I love cus ya just cant kill them! I bought mine because I got it cheap, its a series 2, & best of all, I know how to work on them.
hence why a V6 conversion into a VKC has always made so much sense to me, for along time now.
D.
ive killed a few v6's in the paddok hehe
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
i bought my car cos i like it, because its blue, fat, supercharged, HSV, & it goes fast
Pretty simple Its a VQ statesman 5lt cant walk away from one
The only thing about my VH that appealed to me was that it was a manual. The whole car was pretty rough and to be honest it prolly wasn't worth the $700 I payed for it. But since I've bought it, the only things which have needed replacing is the centre bearing, front brake pads, and oil and plugs etc etc. The biggest thing which needed replacng was the diff, but that was my fault from doing skids, blew 2 salisbury 8 bolts now have a borgy under it. It had more oil outside the motor then inside, yet it was very reliable, always went anytime I needed it. Never once did it let me down except when I blew the diffs haha.
Now it's getting another respray, motor rebuilt, new suspension, interiour cleanup etc etc, bascally going over the whole car replacing everything that needs replacing.

My VK was cheap and I knew if I put some money into it, it would be a good car. It was going along fine until a turkey pulled in front of me. Nice t-bone. The good news is I came away with a decent insurance payout and little damage which has been mostly fixed.
I love the grunt of my beast and having it running on LPG is a bonus.

Well at the time I wanted a VL. It didn't matter what kind of VL, I just wanted one.
I was going to get an Auto, but I'm glad I got a Manual. It wasn't badly priced either ($3000) it was clean, but needed some work.
At the time I got it, I knew nothing about them and didn't even know they had a Nissan motor.
my reasons are
- im bias, i love vn's and always have
- my mum had a vn and so did my sister and the trans and engine wouldnt die no matter how much hell u gave it (hehe i did give them hell)
- has gas and was previously owned by old people(apparently) that gave it to there grandson
- has 220,000 but HEY! its a 17 yr old car, not bad
- it was advertised for $1400 with subs and amps and without stereo i got it 4 $500 how could i not?
and she hasnt let me down, only things ive spent on here are the usual stuff for a service (oil, filters bla bla bla) and 2 new tires for a set of calais rims my uncle gave meSCOOOOOORE! haha
i bought my vc cos 1. my first car was a vc and ive always had a soft spot for them, 2. it only had 179k on it, 2. motor and trans had only done 28k, 3. its a sle and very confy to drive, 4. V8 ( Need i say more )
We got rep back, yaaay!
When the VY's were very first released, and begun circulating in my area, I told my missus, "I will have one of those".....The sleek design, the final car of the buick era, and most important, supercharged, all combining (along with the colour - Quicksilver) to deliver the car that I feel in love with at first sight.
P.S, the fact that it was a November built 03 series 2 with 64,000 on the clock compared to most the others with 90k on them helped me as-well.![]()
Saw the VZ in the showroom at metro and had to have it. After having a 5ltr i saw the six that put out just as much power and thought yeah wtf not. Plus i could see the potential, 190kw 6, 6 spd, lsd and supercharger coming just around the corner, it will be a formidable beast.
i stole mine cant afford to buy my own car
the shape made me do it
nice to drive
almost drives as nice as my houseboat
toot toot tugboat coming through
oh thats the commo tooting
hehehehe
I got the VS cos it was the only car I could find that our twin pram fit in the boot and the baby capsules still fit in the back with the drivers seat right back. I'm 6'2 and I don't like resting my knees against the dash while I drive. That was 4 years ago and it's still going strong. I'm thinking of buying a new car for the wife later this year and putting this one in the shed as a twin turbo project.
