my mate has just bought a 91' VN V6 with VX SS rims and a police chip for $2500. in great nick and goes like a bat out of hell, but im a bit skeptical of the price. anyway. he took me for a spin today and it really hammers, the pick up on it is insane! im wondering if anybody can tell me how much power a stock vn 3.8 makes and how much is added when the coppers put their chips in? thanks in advance
a whole 0kw is added with the cop chip

ok. so what benefit does the chip provide?

hahahaha hope i havent started another one of those "does this chip work?" threads
There is no such thing as a police chip mate.
Its got great pickup because its a VNFaster than the VR's you are used to.
oh ok well i went out just then with him and put our cars to the test ( in a controlled environment of course) and he didnt stand a chance, so im starting to think you might be right mate
the car will actually slow down when the police put their chips in due to the extra weight of the chips, paper, salt & vinegar.
do a search for "Cop Chip".
Rob
interesting the cop chip phenomenon...
I used to work with a bloke who claimed the same thing.
He had a crapped out VN with 350,000 on it.
He could still do a burnout at 3/4 throttle....
He went over the quarter mile and was a little embarrased (16.4)

I've stated before and been told that i'm wrong but i still think that first gear is a different ratio from a vn to a vs. My vn would do 60 in first while my vs would do 70. I might be wrong but vn at least feel like first is different.
"cop chip" that would be the salt 'n' vinegar one........
Yea ino what u mean, the VS will go an extra 10-15km in first compared to a a VN.
The most ive pullled outta mine was just b4 65km n my mates would go just that lil bit more b4 shifting.
There would have to be a small difference in the ratio for that much of a difference.

mmm ok well i guess youve convinced me. his vn would be making the same amount of power as mine because theyre the same engine, so 130kw right?
yeah its about 130. might be 127 or 132 i used to know al of them.
WRONG!
You've got a heap of tings that affect power-
Engine Age (relats to 2nd)
Engine Condition
Last Service
Gear Box's
Gear Box conditions
Tail shaft conditions
Diff condition
Joint condition
To list a few...
Then theres speed-
weight
suspension
all of the above
gear rations
etc.........
nah, a cop chip is when there isn;t anything wrong with your ride and they walk around witha night stick and "chip" your tail lisghts so there a defect...
aZk.
You should have about 5 kw more than him, if the unofficial holden archive isn't lying.

I am selling these "Cop chips" along side my collection of Snake Oil.
Cop cars in nz got the hsv3.8 chip
stock vn make 125kw but they still have the quickest 0-60 to date ( including ALL alloytecs ) so they do have great pickup.
We got rep back, yaaay!
