loom differences
i asked this question in the vn - vp section but didnt realy get a solid answer, perhaps hear there might be a few more readers. anyway i have a yellow stickered 93 vr commodore which would need vast amounts of money to bring it up to scratch, the motor and gear box are in excellent condition, elderly owners for the first 200k with logbooks for the first part of its life, then been "done up"
by my mate who i bought it off, with full exhaust, cai, chip and a stage 2 shift kit in the box, regardless of my mate hooning around in it for 20thousand ks it still runs and shift realy nice and starts up straight away even after sitting for a few weeks.
andthe other side of the story, my other mate has a 89 series 1 vn s pack, staight body average paint and a motor that rattels and clunks with a gear box that slips and takes ages to change between forward and reverse, hes got a gsxr750 and a camry now and said i could have his vn for 500 with 6 months rego. i have been toying with the idea of wacking in my box and motor and giving the mighty vn a new lease on life, from what ive researched it will bolt easy as, its just because the vrs gearbox is electronicaly controlled that the looms are different, so the question is how hard would it be to either patch up a loom or to swap the whole loom over, would there be lots of cutting and joining or can i get it out in one piece, as none of us are realy handy with the electrical side of things, im sure i could pay an auto sparky to do it but cash is incredably tight at the moment with just starting tafe(pre apprentice diesel mechanic) so we were hoping in doing the whole swap ourselfes, we got all the tools access to engine crane, its just the wiring thats bugging me, i have the advantage of having a complete car (the vr) to strip everything off. so has anybody done this type of swap before is there any other things besides the wiring that might screw me around?
cheers
morce

i havent done this or know anyone that has, but i would say u could pull everything out of the vr, motor, box, wiring under the bonnet, dash, everything under the dash and wiring from under the dash and put it in the vn, i would say u will run into some type of problem but search for the perticular problem and post it up and im sure it will all come together.
good luck
Matt

are you going to be using the vr box aswell zuicider? from what ive been told the mopor on its own is a straight plug and play swap, its realy just the box that will
cause the problems.

Hmmm tricky one... you're doing pretty well if you have the whole car to pinch bits from, but i'm not sure if theres any intertwining of the dash loom. I don't think there is, so its quite possible it could be an easy swap of engine, gearbox, loom and computer.

The loom is indeed one piece and it pokes through into the passenger side of the cabin and connects to the PCM which is behind the passenger side kick panel

Yes there will but having never pulled it out, I don't know how many or where they are I'm afraid. Someone else who has done it will know.
