a bit off topic but i have always wondered what happens to these cars. do they get sold off at auctions or taken to scrap metal places?

They usually go up for tender or they are auctioned and wrecking yards buy them. I think the public may be allowed to bid, not sure. I think there is some sort of control over it to stop these cars being cut and shut.
