Recently my timing chain on my '88 VN has just been getting worse and worse. So I figured I had better get some quotes. I have just been quoted $700 for a new chain and to have it installed. I'm not the most mechanically minded person so I don't know everything that is involved, but I thought this price sounded a bit steep. But is this price reasonable? If not, what is a decent price to have it done?
Wow sound steep. Its alway pays to look around and ask.
Find out how much of that is the labor component, and how much is the cost of the timing chain... Also find out if that quoted price was for the complete kit including gear and sprokets, or just the chain and seals? If you want I can get you a reference price on the parts, and then just find out what the labor should be worth.
