Early this year I moved to a 'low risk' area so when I changed my address I thought my monthly premium would come down. Even though I knew my 60% NCB dropped to 50% because of an at fault claim in August (scraped a bloody retaining wall in a driveway). However it jumped from $75 per month to $90.75 per month or $1089 per year. I called and complained and they said it was as low as I could get with my agreed value. I even damanded a reassessment of the quote and still came back at $90 p/m. I then called again and acting like a new customer asked for an over the phone quote and got a figure of $65.80 p/m or $789.63. As soon as I got that figure I said "Well I'm already a customer and was told $90.75 p/m was the lowest I could get". The customer rep seemed totally surprised and couldn't explain why, then proceeded to tell me that it's something to do with two different computer systems for new and existing customers. Yeah right! So Immediately I told them to cancel my existing (expensive) policy and to fill out a new one for me.
I remember a story on ACA or TT years back about companies including tel-co's and other insurers ripping off existing customers and looking after new ones. Let this be a warning to you all. If you feel you're getting ripped off go to insurers websites and do an online quote and if there is a big difference between what you're currently paying and the new quote, call and complain.
I wanted to stay with my current insurer because they are the cheapest and they do come through with the goods when you need help as I've found out first hand. Can I say the name of my insurer? Moderators might like to let me know.

Sorry, can a moderator move this to the 'other' General part of this forum? My mistake.

All moved, I can feel your pain although that is a real big jump.
I just got my renewal to find it had jumped up $50 (no claims ever), despite paying it yearly just to get it out of the way it wasn't too much of a difference, I wonder how many people are in the same boat. To add salt to the wound it was meant to be agreed but somehow still dropped $5000 value off it.
Who are you with out of curiosity?
ah insurance, yes, that more can anyone say. that is what insurance companys do, i had a accident a little while back now, while i wasnt at fault it has affected my insurance. insurance went up, and up untill i just couldnt afford it. now it's been 4 yrs and i am no longer insured. im pretty much uninsurable, which sucks. keep looking, dont belive in a thing called loyalty, look for the best deal. gone are the days of staying with one person and getting discounts,

I'm with ING insurance, which is underwritten by CGU. The same way that Just car insurance is actually owned by AAMI. I've done my shopping around and I know that ING is the cheapest for me. Now paying $789.80 per year with only $400 excess. AAMI quoted around $1700. Shannons and Just car were around $1300. NRMA and GIO were around $1800. Don't believe in those stupid NRMA adds where they say "You could be missing out..." It's just rubbish. Darren I guarantee that if you act like a new customer and ask for a quote over the phone you'll get it much cheaper than you already pay and you'll get your agreed value back.

Yeah. Ive always found NRMA to be one of the most, if not the most expensive insurers. Ive only got third party property because the amount that the insurance companys want for comprehensive on my VN is just excessive. I cant bring myself to pay $800+ per year for a car that only cost me $1200.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
My premium has gone down every year so far. The moment it increases I'll be on the blower getting quotes, including from my current insurer, Just Car!

* Sureflo 3.5 inch medium-loud cat back exhaust
RACQ did the same with me - premium jump of $100, agreed value drop of around $2k - despite having no claims etc.
I changed to Shannons after quizzing RACQ about it - my insurance went from $550-600 to about $350 full comp, with around a $5k increase in agreed value - with all engine and other mods listed on policy.
Think I might have to look at a place which compares them (complete mental blank of the correct wording).
When I looked at insurance last year a lot of places wouldn't even insure me because of my age and the car being supercharged yet I can get insurance for an 8 no questions asked and might I add it was about $200 - $300 cheaper and that was really without shopping around.
Interesting shaggerz that's who I'm with and it went up.
Think I might give them a buzz and see what the go is.
i hate them to the max
That's because as your car ages, young inexperienced drivers can afford to buy them and they're involved in more accidents. Then anybody else who drives the same car gets a nice increase in premiums to compensate. Don't have to agree with it, but that's how they look at it. (Insurance companies)
