Default Drag tyres to suit VX SS

Hi there, I wasnt too sure where to post this question but figure this is as good a place as any.

I am going to purchase a pair of DOT approved drag racing tyres for my VX SS - I'm thinking along the lines of M/T ET Street's or similar. Can anyone please tell me from thier own experiences what the best type/size etc to suit this car, giving maximum traction without any clearance issues (guard rub etc). I realise the 17's will need to go in favour of 14's or 15's to allow a higher sidewall.

    Thanks, Justin

Depends on what power you are pushing, i was running low 12's easy on my stock road tyres as calder seems to use alot of VHT so grip wasnt an issue. What power figures will you be running this car and tyre setup?

    Hi minux

I'm not 100% sure on hp figures yet, although I expect it to be between 300 and 350 rear wheel kw minimum. The track which the car will mainly run on has ok traction, (http://www.mastertonmotorplex.co.nz) but I have seen several supercharged and even big hp n/a Commodores suffering traction loss up to and after 60ft, more so if the track temp is low.
I'm keen to stick with stock rubber if you think that will do the job - that means more money to put into go-fast bits!!

I've also been warned against fitting nolathane bushes to the rear end as this reduces the 'squat' and can reduce traction further.

I havent even put the car down the strip yet as i've just bought it, so I'm just trying to gather info and hear other peoples experiences before it gets it's birthday/wake up so I can hopefully make a more informed decision!

    Thanks!
