Im after buying a car in the ACT witha current reistration.
does anyone know the EASYest way to get it registed in vic and all fixed up at the ACT end wiht as little cost and effort involved?
I rang Vicroads and they gave me a process to follow but im wondering if anyone has experience in the matter first hand.. to try and avoide red tape and further issues.
has any one done this?
Thanx.
aZk.
Umm i rang them some time ago to get mine changed when i moved from Queensland to Victoria.
Changing the plates over is APPARENTLY farily easy if you have a RWC and a Receipt of your sale (forgotten the name of the of receipt...) and if you have a bit of luck with who you deal with at VicRoads. Just take the RWC and Receipt in to them, you have to pay a tax on the sale, from memory i think its about 7%...(i could be wrong though.) Then just pay your rego, and im pretty sure theres a fee for the plates but that may be included in the tax. And i think thats about it. Oh and, some cars need to be inspected, but ive never heard of them actually doing it. But i suggest ringing and just make sure.
If you dont have a receipt, you have to pay tax on the market value of the car.
If youre buying the car off a mate or something try get him to write the sale receipt out for 500 bucks, that way you pay less tax![]()
For me personally, Vicroads gave me about a billion different answers and was to much hassle, so i kept my lovely Queensland plates and registered it at my dads place up north.
Hope that has been of some help.
