Am in the process of buying a, probably, HZ 1 tonner with the standard motor in it. What I need to know is, how difficult is it to change it over to a modern motor?? Most I've seen converted, and there's not that many, have a VN to VP motor in them.
Is this expensive/hard to do??
Any particular reason why it's commonly the VN/VP motor??
Does the entire drive line need to be changed or modified??
Do I need to get an Engineer's Certificate (VAS) to have the engine changed over??
To stick a v6 into an hz you can get a conversion kit from Castlemain Rod Shop. You can use the v6 and t700 with a modified tailshaft and the stock diff. V6's are a good cheap conversion, takes a bit to set up but the motors are cheap. Yes it will need an engineers cert from whatever state your in.
Theres that much room under the bonnet of a z you can pretty much stick you can think of anything in there.
Meh, what's wrong with the old motors mate? Is it a 253, 308 or a 202 straight six?
If it's an eight, I'd just keep the current engine. Also, I'm a huge fan of HZ's (one tonners and statesmans particularaly) and so I def wanna see it!
i thought the tonners only came with a bent 8, thats why i think someone swapped the motor in the bothers hq tonner for a 202, a standard vn v6 has more power than the old 308's anyway unless its been worked so i think its a good conversion
