Hi I hit a 07 barina with my door (carpark - opened door and the wind caught it and hit her door). Anyway - her insurance company quoted me 1k. The dint is th size of a 5c piece, maybe 1/2 to 1cm deep. There is minor paint damage (my paint on her car - metho will take it off). I was expecting this to cost max $300.
They want to charge labour on removing the front bumper and the headlights, as well as the wipers. I ONLY hit the front LH door. The only reason I can think for this is wiring.
So am I being taken for a ride? How much SHOULD this cost..? Anyone know any cheap panel beater's in the SE suburbs of Melbourne? And how much for a whole front door for a barina (not the interior of it).
Thanks in advance.![]()
I would have thought $500 tops ... I had 3 dents pulled (2 on roof 1 on rear) for $500... But that was only put in primer ... So yeah, 1 little would not cost that much ...
i had my drivers side door repaired and they had to redo the clear on the rear door aswell and it cost me $380.
ask for another qoute
Ask her to take it to a repairer nominated by you as you are the one paying for it. Are you insured? Let the insurance companies battle it out. Or you could take the hard line approach and tell her to get ****ed because it was in a carpark.
her insurance already contacted me. i'd love to use the hard line approach though, but somehow i dont think it's gonna stick.
i would go through my insurance, but my excess is 1200 or 1500 so its pointless.
Question the insurance company. Maybe there were some other things that were wrong on the car, and she has taken it to a friendly repairer who is making you pay for more damage then what you caused.
Ask if you can meet the assesor at the vehicle whilst it is at the repair shop ... Might be worth a try ..
Ask to see a copy of the quote.I would tell them to go jump.
Contact your insurance company just to see where you stand. You may be surprised to learn that the excess may not apply to a situation like that. You may just have to pay the repair cost. But I wouldn't take their quote as gospel. You are entitled to get your own quotes and repair the car without going through her insurance company. The proper way to do it would be to get three quotes and take the car to which ever repairer you decide on. If both insurance companies were involved then it would be at their discretion where it got repaired.
Have to agree, don't take that, It is very common for people to get other work done at someone elses expense.
FFS You can buy a whole new barina for that price. Definitely check the quote
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now
<davy> an alcoholic racist
im not to sure dont quote me on this but i think you will find that a good portion of that $1000 would go to the insurance to cover there mucking around finding a repairer or maybey shes going you for her excess aswell as the repair costs??
just had a look at my daughter has a Barina ,and there is no need to remove the bumper and light to re-spray the door . Most panel beaters only mask these parts anyway . Tell her you will offer $200 or see her in court .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
i know it isnt the same but i screwed up when i was backing my old datsun out of the shed and left the door open. bent the door. to cut a long story short...
to remove the door i had to remove the front guard. to remove the guard i had to removed the apron. to remove the apron i had to remove the bumper and headlights.
My suspicion is that the plastic protector under the wipers is covering bolts to help with the removal of the guard.
Door itself might be 300 to replace. they will charge for paint, and i think oven time. which could take it around 500-600.
then the fitting, mucking around pulling all those bits off to get to the bits the really need.
Add to that removing trims and glass from the old door and installing in the new door.
remember, these guys are out to make a profit.
having said that, even if you don't use your insurance you are still entitled to get 3 quotes before you need to think any harder.
Don't bargain on getting out if it cheaply.
I've had three different incedents in car parks, one where I saw what happened, two where I came out and found a smashed tail light. The one where I witnessed it, the lady drove into the back of my car and dented my bumper, XW Falcon, chrome bumper, she had a 4wd with a towbar tongue mounted on the bullbar, probably to park a boat or caravan. Totally buggered my bumper, I said to her "Nice parking, can I get your details and your insurance company?" She said "No, this is a private carpark, I don't have to give you ****". I took the rego and reported it to the shopping complex management and the police. The shopping centre gave me $100 towards getting it repaired, the police basically said stiff ****.
That is ****ed. I didnt know that if it happened in a shopping center carpark you could tell them to go jump... Not that im going to purposly go and reverse into someones car.
Ive come back from shopping and found someone had hit my car while parking. Had black paint on the front bumper. No dints, paint came off with metho so i was pretty lucky.
I fail to see how this could work. If someone vandalises a car in a car park do the police say stiff ****? If someone steals a car is it stiff ****? Damaging a car via an accident is still a form of vandalism if anything.
You should have passed the details on to your insurance company. All they need is a registration plate and they will do the rest.
It depends on the level of damage I'd imagine. As mine was minor the police didn't want to know. If you reported it to your insurance company it might be different because that would actually cost them money so it is in their best interest to chase up the person who did it.
My XW wasn't insured then, only had 3rd party.
The road traffic act makes it different. As a car park isn't a road, the road traffic act doesn't apply. Insurance companies get results because they pursue it civilly, not through a criminal court. Police can get involved if hey want to but not as part of a traffic accident, only when a complaint is made about the damage. Sometimes the police will not get involved if the damage is minor or nobody got hurt. A bit like a neighbour dispute. Let the owner of the carpark sort it out.
EDIT Some carparks have signs stating that people park at their own risk.
ah i get it. still doesnt make whoever said "cant do ****" correct.
If I had comprehensive insurance the bitch would have paid. People should just have a bit more respect for other peoples property, or the car parks should be bigger.
thats a rip off!, no way known a lil dent like that would cost that much, a car with a caved in front end repair bill cost that much but not a lil dent. take em to court if they give ya trouble.
