I'm looking at buying a 2002-03 VY I/II Berlina Sedan, and have been looking at lots of ads in car yard etc. I pretty much know what I want, and am just huning for the best deals etc.
If you buy an car from auctions... like this one (they seem pretty reputable) www.autogroup.com.au do you get the balance of New Car Warranty etc (what is the new car warranty on a VY Berlina anyway?) and what else should I look out for?
I've been told to enquire with Vic Roads to ensure that the car is not a Stolen or Reparable Write Off etc. I'm only looking at Ex Govt and Corp Fleet vehicles, so I would like to think I'm going down the right path.
If anyone has any experience in how much cheaper cars like this are at an auction house compared with a Holden Dealer, that would be good to know. I'm going to go to a few of the auctions to get a feel for them. The main reason I have been attracted to the Holden Dealers is because of there Certified 5 year used car warranty.
Cheers.
Jason
Waranty is only as good for what it covers make sure you read what it covers really well, Holden dealers also can be dodgey wit the cars but less likely to get a lemon, auctions should come wit some sort of woranty for exrta as the car will be "faily" new
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
I was just having a look at that site, i just found this...

Think it could have been a Gov't type car, ie carting the Premier/PM around.
Back in the hope things have settled down...
I can speak honestly about the warranty Salem was referring to, I bought a 2 year warranty with the VN, it was the biggest waste of money I could possibly imagine, everything that went wrong was not covered under the warranty so be very careful.
I don't know how Holden operates the 5 year warranty but it might pay to have a look at it closely before handing over any cash.
The warranty does transfer to the new owner - you just need to contact holden with the VIN number & your details.
Auto-group by law have to guarantee the title of every vehicle they sell.
I have bought numerous cars (5 actually, and inspected many more for friends who got bargains) off them when I lived in Sydney, and you do save heaps.
Here's a tip: each car they have there generally has a minimum price to be reached, and you can make a pre-auction offer, and if it is higher than that price, they will sell it to you before the auction.
I bought 3 of the 5 cars that way - although only 1 was ex govt, the other 4 were private/company/repo cars.
A VX SS with no boot spoiler - previous law enforcement duties perhaps?Originally Posted by fourstar82
Mum's VX Berlina was bought at Brisbane auctions, it is ex Department of Employment.
We checked out what the others were going for, and made a bid beforehand on this one and got a good deal. Haven't had a single problem with the car.
Warranty is transferable.

i got my Vp from there it was an "old grandpa" Car, so it was in top nic, with bugger all Km's.
Because it is an acution thou, purchasing is differnet then a sale lot, so you must keep you're head and not get too attached too the cars there else you will over spend.
But yer, none of them are stolen and the newer ones are all ex-fleet/ex-gov cars
