I think you need to reset the ECU to get the computer to reset the idle mapping...

Nothing was disconnected so no need to reset anything. Degreaser doesn't really do much, all you have done is probably block some holes up. Get some carby cleaner, it dissolves everything and works better.

It is best to actually remove it but yes, you can do that, drop the vacuum hose off the bottom of the TB first though, so the crap runs out. Then give it a blast while it is running to get it further in the intake.

definitly recomend removing before cleaning, as spanner mentioned, you don't want to soak the TPS with carb cleaner. if possible it is best to remove the IAC valve as well to clean those passages out properly. also make sure all the vacuum holes are clear. even if you haven't removed it, you need to reset the idle (reset ecu) over the years all the gunk in the TB and IAC passages will effect the amount of air that goes through there and the IAC slowly adjusts to compensate, cleaning it is going to effect things, a reset isn't going to hurt anything and can only really improve the situation.

have a look in the howto section, there should a threads there for cleaning the TB and reseting the idle

Likely you have blocked the idle valve plunger or damaged the icu, you really have to remove the t/b from the manifold, even then the IAC hole should be kept up and any spray and gunk will flow out of the hole.

Leaving it on means all that crap has washed down onto valves and pistons, not real flash for piston rings.

I've never known anyone to leave it on so the hoses that connect under the t/b will also have received a fair amount of unwanted gunk.

Probably best to remove it and do it again properly, if the IAC tests faulty replace it, from memory a newbi is about $85, but a s/h one may be had for stuff all.

As for the crap inside the engine ? good luck.

I took mine off and went hell on it with a carby cleaner - results...... Exclellent response and idle quality.

Take it off and do it the right way!!

Any degreaser that has made it into the engine would have just burnt off anyway, as 99% of the crap in the throttle body is carbon, it is harmless to the engine. I wouldn't worry too much about that.

When you leave it on, crap that is built up runs into the vacuum holes that are in the TB, doing it off the car is definitely better.

Yeah Degreser is crap, Carby Cleaner is the good stuff. Just get some1 to open the butterfly (unless you can do it yourself) and spray some in and get a rag and rub the **** off the butterfly and around the throat of the TB. Get a toothbrush is necessary. Make not of the IAC holes etc in the TB and give them a squirt and clean too.
