Hey guys, a msg has been goin round the last 2 days, and is follows:
What i wanna know is if its legit, is somthin actually happening up there, or is it just some rumur goin round the world through sms.The south eastern racing assoc. is holding a meeting at the tooradin airfield at 7pm september 5th to raise support for a legal drag strip in our area. Your attendance would be appreciated. Forward this msg to your mates.
A mate of mine was at tafe today and says all the guys there are going, and a few of us plan to go for a drive up there.
So is anyone else goin or have heard of it?
Cheers,
Geoff
Ahhhh was talking to Tappy from YT, would of been tons more cars. We were under the impression it was postponed!!
Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
here we go ladies, taken from another forum.
I just got off a long phone call to rick at the club.
He said the real reason for cancelling the meeting was not because of anyones actions afterwards (there were a couple of skids) but he says that garry morrison who owns the airfield has turned against the club and is wanting to run it by himself and not with cams, just like bob jane does.
Fair enough too because he can make money out of it but it doesnt help the club and it still has to get council approval.
So what theyre doing is forming a club in the next few weeks then going to try to start racing at sandown. This way they dont need any approvals, just walk in and hand over the money and the track is open. This way atleast there is racing.
It wont be for 9 and 10 second cars but more your street cars that run anything down to an 11 (due to track length mainly).
So more info to come but thats where its at at the moment. So just so everyone knows it wasnt anyone mucking around its that garry has turned on the club to try to make more money for himself by not paying cams, all the money then goes to him.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
Yeah i was there last week prolly just go down on wednesday and see whats happenin. There's been talk about these sort of things for a while but we'll see if anything actually comes off this.
Yeah, i may as well head down its not that far from me, maybe 25 min drive.
The guy is hardcore trying to get it happening and yeh, everyone is keen as mustard, but we shall see, theres been so many attempts for stuff like this but we'll see what happens, i sooo hope somethin good happens soon though
I heard that the meeting for this week has been cancelled cause the guy did a backflip?

Yeah geoff, it has been cancelled, some guy on SC has already said abt it. Coz a tooradin person is having a meeting with someone at sandown or somethin ot work something out.
X_Adam_X... im pretty sure learners can use drag strips like calder and stuff, its been asked on another forum once before.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
Well we rocked up last night.... went to tooradin airfield, heaps of cars there..... nothin happened for a while, then everyone came runnin out yellin out cranbourne autobarn so we headed there and the bloke was there talkin to everyone about it and yeah...
Just sortin everything out atm.
Basically this bloke wants to start a club, and everyone must get there cams license ($88 pa) and then we can hire sandown and drag there....... and be like a proper club, holding proper events, and all that jazz
yeah what geoff siad ^^^.
the guy who was talkn, wants to help everyone, and get hoons of the street. And tooradin wouldnt help him (to an extent) so he wants to get a club together so then we can use sandown.. pay some cash and drag and meet new ppl... but there will be NO alcohol at these events.
Alcohol is what stops everything, ppl drink then do stupid ****. So this guy wants NO alcohol at events. Which if we have no alcohol, and ppl pay some cash, then the locals MAY let us use the sandown more often.
But at te moment, the guy is trying to get some ppl behind him, to form a club, and then get members etc..
So give a few weeks or so, and we MAY have drags on this side of the city, instead of driving to Calder, Heathcote and so on..
*EDIT* the guy who is trying to form a club said there will NOT be another meet for a couple of weeks. But he said he would let people know when there was.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
sweet as keep us posted markie and geoff im in for supporting this was gonna head down last night but didnt know what the hell was going on
Yeah thats the thing no one really knows whats goin on, but thats as far as we are at this point.
I personally think the best way for it to happen is to get a club open and have a forum on the net, and then EVERYONE can know whats goin on, problem is the guy that wants it all to happen is computer illiterate
Hmm sounds well set up.....
Yeah if he can get his act together I might join up keep us posted.
I've seen a lot of this talk going around various web site forums and have also heard the jobs being given over the radio the last couple of Wednesdays of youths in cars gathering in Tooradin and Cranbourne.
There was only a couple of things I found disturbing:
1. The behaviour last week of the people gathering at Tooradin. Although I wasn't there, I did hear that people started to flout at the police presence and started up some rather unlawful behaviour.
2. These announcements on other sites have said that this idea of an off street racing venue has the backing of police at Dandenong, Cranbourne and Narre Warren. I don't ever recall Victoria Police ever backing such an idea. In fact, the last venue that was started up (the one around Campbellfield I think) Victoria Police officially rejected any proposal that they back the idea, highlighting the fact that such driving manner, even not on public roads, can still be an offence.

It's a long running debate that I'm not going to weigh into. I'll leave you all to it.
Stocky: I've answered that question before in the 'Ask the Copper' thread (probably deleted now) here it is again;
Road Safety Act 1986
Section 64 : Dangerous driving
(1) A person must not drive a motor vehicle at a
speed or in a manner which is dangerous to the
public, having regard to all the circumstances of
the case.
It doesn't mention the phrase "on a highway" like other offences that are only applicable to public roads, therefore the offence can occur anywhere.
