Default Time to take the engine apart. Any suggestions?

Well I'm considering take the engine apart a bit over the next couple of weeks. I just got some heavy duty valve springs and I'm going to replace the lifters to stop my engine from ticking. Is there anything else I could do to the engine while its in pieces. Ive heard of people suggesting timing chain with the valve springs, and Im thinking some gaskets to try fix some rev hunting at idle. any suggestions on what else i could do would be great

If you are going heavier springs I would put on a double row timing chain or you might end up with the same problem as paradox, broke a tensioner. Apparently a lot of the US guys are breaking tensioners too when going heavier valve springs.

Timing chain, camshaft (with a little more poke).

Timing chains aren't that expensive depends who you know and where you buy them from. Never priced one for a v6 but i can get v8's for around $100 mark. If you got the timing cover off you might as well put in a cam, something to suit the charger if your keeping it. New water pump since you'll be pulling it off anyway. Are you going to take the heads off or just do the springs while they're still on the motor?
The gasket that would cause idle hunt are more than likely manifold and since thats coming off they're going to be changed anyway.
I suggest you get some decent lifters as cheapo ones won't last long with a new cam. A month before one went in my vh with a crow cam.
Thats all off the top of my head maybe some other people can offer some more advice.

A ticking noise under bonnet means a lifter is dry or running low pressure.

Lifters are hydrolic and work under oil pressure when the engine is running. These lifters have a hole approximately 2- 3 mm wide which allows the pressurised oil to fill the lifters. If this hole fills with crappy oil or deposits from the walls of your inner engine, the lifters are not able to be filled with oil and you get a slack between the lifter, push rod and rockers.

It is asvisable never to use an internal engine cleaner as this removes the sediment from the inner wall of teh engine and can block these lifters if not other crucial parts of your engines oil veins.

No power loss and as you have noticed - they can go on like that for years. A great excuse to get a new cam IMHO.
