Question Will A VY Steering Wheel Fit VS???

    Hey guys,
I hate the steering wheel in my VS, a guy on another forum is selling one from a VY, its leather and what not, just want to know if itll be a straight bolt up....
And what happens regarding the airbag???
That pretty straight forward or what?
    Cheers,
    Geoff

No it wont fit. VN-VS are all the same (will fit, though leaves a gap on alot of cars), but nothing after VS will fit. It wont just leave a gap, it simply wont go on

VT on to VR/VS is probvably easier than VY to VR/VS. I know some people who have put VY wheels on to VT/VX and they had a whole heap of problems fitting them. Required a fair bit of modification if I remember correctly. But it can be done from VY to VT. But I really doubt it VY-VR/VS

It definitely won't fit buddy. You asked, we answered. If you don't choose to believe us, why ask in the first place?

Nothing is impossible - don't go off at him for not giving up.

Rip your wheel off, and if you don't have access to a VY wheel try to get some photos and dimensions of it. See what needs to be done and what it will involve, then make up your mind to whether or not it is worth it.

Don't just look at modding the VY wheel to fit the VS column - could always look at modding the VS column to fit the VY wheel?

I'm sure there is someone out there willing to help.

Geoff doesnt have access to a VY wheel at the moment. He was asking if it would fit, because he may be able to purchase one for a reasonable price.

It was a simple yes it will, or No it wont.

It doesnt matter because it wont fit...

Being a VS clubsport I would assume he does have an airbag though.

Think about car modifications before there were off-the-shelf parts for anything - nothing was a direct 'bolt-up'.

Fitting 50s Chev steering columns into 60s Holden front ends going through a 40s motor/box into a 70s Ford rear all working around a 30s chassis and body.

Nothing fitted exact, but it happens to this day where people are modifying parts to suit their needs.

If you want **** that bolts straight up either get the wheel you have retrimmed or look at optioned models of the same, or put the extra work and research into making a later model wheel fit the earlier column.

And yes, I have seen a VY Wheel on a VS column. Didn't ask how he did it or even why - but it was there. So yes it is possible with a bit of work

Its quite true that nothing its impossible,
but its just about how hard it is to MAKE it possible.

    Hope that makes sense.

Whoa dude calm down im not takin a stab at any one.
Geebus this thread has turned angry since i checked it last.
Its ok dont even bother replying any more anyone. Ill wait a while and try it myself and see what happens.
The only reason i wanted to re-confirm that answer was because someone stated that the thing was square when quite clearly i can tell from the picture of the wheel that its not!

Actually buddy read the thread again. 2 people said no (me and 88greenVN) then he goes "are you sure". Nobody said yes it will fit before he asked that.

He asked if it will be a "STRAIGHT BOLT UP". That was the question. If someone comes in and says "Will an LS2 be a straight fit into my VL commodore?" the answer is no... With alot of modification and about 12k sure its possible, but that was never the question.

When chasing a new second hand wheel for the VN I pulled out a VR wheel that needed some glue. At that time they (wreckers) said that a VT and onwards had square shafts. So i had to choose from a VN, VP, VR and VS to fit my VN. I purchased the wheel, fixed it up and it works great.

Also looked at a VY wheel on Ebay and asked the seller - he said "nope wont fit".

Can any VT VX VY VZ owners confirm the square/not square shaft?

There in lies the age old question, can you fit a square peg into a round hole.

The hole certainly looks round to me. If you find out if it fits, let us know. I wouldn't mind putting one on my VS. Has airbags but I think the triggering circuits should be the same.

That was the other question i asked but instead everything turned into a bitch fest. Who cares guys, seriously, bitching and trying to be right doesnt help.
And yes that is the steering wheel in question, as i stated it has a round hole and it looks identical to the one that was on my vr, and as ive read vn-vs are the same, so i figured my vs was the same as my vr, and that hole looks the same, i just needed to clarify.
So everyone stop bitching about the hole question, can i get some clarification on the airbag side of things?
Can u keep the VS airbag and install that into the VY wheel?

I think if you can get it to fit it would be well worth it. Would look sweet and apparently not many people (if any) have done it before

There is a VN with a VY steering wheel on the other forum, but he changed steering racks and firewall...

It will never just fit as the shafts are different sizes, its as simple as that. You can a.) change shafts/steering racks or b.) be stupid and weld a boss kit of some sort to the back of the VY wheel.

I agree with you 100%. The shaft needs to be changed to fit it. It is possible but not a straight swap. And VR/VS Airbag steering wheels don't fit on an Non-Airbag Steering wheel equiped car, they are different also.
