Hi, could someone please tell me how many KW my 1997 VS Series 2, 5lt V8 5 speed X Police chaser has. The guys at work reckon it has 215kw.

The base model V8s are 168kw

HSVs have 185 and 215.

They are all FWKW, not RWKW.

My 165FWKW VP was 130RWKW on the dyno (to work out roughly what yours would have at the wheels.

The mods are simple to get to 185 or 215, my car with decent exhaust, HSV computer and CAI etc is about 220fwkw now.

The motors are identical from VN-VS, besides bolt on things.

Thanks. This car has a flow through exhaust, cold air intake. Where could I get a computer chip? Do you think they left the police chip in the car?

The police chip is just a myth. ALL police cars have the same computer. The only difference i think is something to do with the alternator, due to them needing better battery life when leaving the lights etc on when not running. Nothing to gain power tho.


The exhaust and cold air intake will help.

Mine stock was 130rwkw.

I changed the computer (SV90), CAI, converted to manual, and put a full twin hi flow exhaust and made 160rwkw, so i guess you wouldn't be far off that (being manual already)

Thanks, you have help a lot. Next question I have a really bad squeaking noise coming from the lower left of the motor. The guy I brought it off said it was the idler arm?

5.0's don't have idler's/tensioners mate

I think he means lower to the left of the motor, the steering idler arm? Not sure though.
