Hey guys, i have been running my VP on shell VPower since i have owned it and nothing BUT VPower has been put through it for the last 4-5 years (previously it was optimax) as my dad used to own it before he got his brand new car. Anyways, i was just wondering, is there a MAJOR difference between the 95 octane unleaded and the VPower (98 octane)?? Honestly, is there any REAL difference in mileage and cleanlyness etc at all??
I like to know facts if at all possible not people's theories..........
Cheers!!!![]()
i reckon it would varie alot (people's ipinions) as different stations put more or less water into their petrol etc.

Mines just faster cos its Red
ahhh true.........but putting that aside.........???
I dont know.
I use bp ultimate but my foot is always flat so my mileage always sucks![]()
petrol stations dont water down petrol... thats not how it works....
It will vary, your running 3 Octane points less... Thats less potential power right there. Im not sure if a study has been done.
are you trying to go up or down ocatne ratings.... like 95 to 98 or vis versa?
aZk.
coby, go on the "other" forum and look at the thread on their about it... its got alot of answers and mixed respronses.
I put some V Power in mine last week, and i found it quite good. My dad runs his VX on it all the time, and has done for the past 3yrs or so.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
I use BP ult because the car reacts well to it. I don't see any performance gains or difference between 98 and 95, maybe its too small to be noticed.
I have always been told that BP has the highest quality fuel (more regular checks, stricter standards etc) and others agree. However, I'm not that fussy and only use BP if I know I will be near one. Otherwise it's just whatever is closest (except United or those other dodgy ones)

ahh i see i have heard the same about BP........maybe i am soon to make a switch..............
Just remember this, when producing 98 octane fuel companies must adhere to VERY STRICT guidelines, whereas they are alot more relaxed on any other fuel.
I personally do not like v-power or shell fuels period. I stick with BP Ultimate and in emergencies Synergy 8000(BP Blend)

interesting ^^^^
hmmm i think my car is up for a fuel change...........it seems more people are going with BP ultimate and liking it as opposed to shell fuels........well im gonna fill her up tonight as im on just under half a tank and i dont let her drop below a quarter of a tank ever........think i might head to BP up from work.......
thanks guys!
premium fuels are better for the engine IF your engine likes it and runs nicely on it. Some don't.
Well worth the few cents more.

So everyone hates shell fuels, what do people think about caltex fuels?
I use Vortex 95 in my work van and in my commy. Over regular unleaded I noticed a small improvement in my commy in both response and economy, and quite a big difference in the performance of my work van. And in the van i get about 50km's extra to a tank than i did than with the regular sh*t, i couldnt tell you exactly how much more economy i've got out of my commodore, but there's also the peace of mind you get lol
Overall i reckon the vortex is definately an improvement over regular, it is noticeable.
Cheers
I work for the fuel companies fixing their retail comuter systems in NZ and in Aust. i have also has quite a bot to do with the fuel side of things and can say that BP are the best. Next would be shell, then mobil and last of all Caltex.
i have taken on what a few people have said and i filled up yesterday with a full tank of BP ultimate..........seems to run a smidgen smoother but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me
i still love my v power and on some occasion bp ult.

It's a good idea to stick with the one fuel long term.
Different service stations (shell, BP, mobil, caltex etc) petrols have different contaminants in them, i had my car running on Vpower (previously optimax) for about 2 years, now i have changed over totally to BP ultimate and i'm gonna use that now.
Car does run a little smoother after ditching the shell fuel. The idle seems a bit smoother and up through 1st and 2nd seems alot amoother as well. Could just be me i guess.
