Could someone give me any idea or opinion on where i stand?
Was at work today, left the shop n went out onsite to do a job in the work car, no problems.
Where i work there is off street paring provided, where i park my car in the same spot since i started ther over 12 months ago.
It's a particularly windy day today. I came back to the shop from my job, and my workmate tells we he had to run outside because a sheet of metal was blown off the fence, and landed on my car. He sed he heard the bang n ran outside and he had to pull the sheet off, it was leaning agains the drivers side front guard.
It's dented the guard in 3 places, and left scratches from the nails, plus its rubbed off a big section of paint, its pretty bad.
As you could imagine I'm fuming. My cars insured full comprehensive for this address during business hours, but i don't think I should have to make the claim n lose my bonus plus make my premium go up.
Who is liable for this? Shouldn't the company insurance cover the repair?
damn unlucky mate...i'm no insurance agent or guru, but having been insured for many years and once worked in the industry, many moons ago, there are a couple of things to consider
1) what type of full comprehensive policy do you have, does it have a one at fault claim or a NCB protection, where you can make a claim without losing NCB %.
2) generally, private premises insurance policies can cover fence damage, if it is elected in the policy, i don't know what happens with businesses that share a fence line, i'm assuming it would be similar to home owners/neighbours....
if your business or neighbouring one has any sort of property insurance see if it includes fencing, you might be able to put a claim through that instead of your own insurance....
otherwise, call your insurance co. tell 'em what happened and where and get some advice before you go ahead with anything.
Thanks for your advice mate. Basically pretty much everyone i talked to seem to think the company should pay for it, seeing as the damage was done while the car was parked off street on their premises.
I have photos to prove what happened, but im concerned that the powers that be will do everything possible to wriggle out of this one.
If tats the case im not sure where to go from there. I dont think its sumthing i should have to incur. How is that fair that i pay an excess, lose my NCB and have higher premiums in future.
If it was parked out on the street, fair enough, **** happens. But this has always been my parking spot. I just hope common sense prevails because a big **** fight is not what i want.
Sorry to say, but i think you will find most companies have a policy of you park your car there at your own risk.
At my old job, i had to sign a form saying they are waved from cover, as i parked my car down the loading dock (only 1 dock ever got used, and my car was parked in front of a trailer)
I never had any issues, but the drivers that loaded there always knew where my car was. And was a much better option than leaving it out in the carpark for all to see (especially working Saturdays)

I was just explaining about me parking down a dock.
Parking in the main carpark would have the same effect, no cover (from the way i understand it)
Hopefully your company does cover peoples cars.

We had a few cases while i was workin there a truck didnt fix down his load and a couple pallets fell from the top on a few cars they all were covered and got fixed at the companies expense.
