    Default Rego extension?

Hi guys 10days untill my rego is due on my VT, and cant come up with the money. My mate told me they give you 28days to pay it but cant drive the car is this true?

And do I have to ring the RTA and ask for the 28day extension?

Do I have to get a rwc if I get the extension

If you are in Vic i think you have 12 months to pay it before a RWC is required. Obviously you cannot drive. Also, once paid, the reg is backdated to the due date.

Im Vic once the rego has past its due date you have another 3 months before you have to pay it but you cant drive it.Once the 3 months are up you will need to re register it.Done it myself and im sure it says it on tthe paperwork.

Are you sure, i thought a fresh rwc lasted 3 months, if it ran out then it needed re-doing, i was of the belief reg had 12 months. Im probably wrong, but thats what i thought it was.

It used to be 12 months in Victoria but they reduced it to 3 months.
After 3 months you have to get a RWC and re-register. Obviously you can't drive it during those 3 months and when you pay it, it gets back dated to when it was originally due. We let our old VC slip over a few weeks and I rang Vic Roads and that is what I was told.

Nah a RWC lasts 28 or 30 days then you need to get another one.If you dont pay the reg until the 3 months are almost up you basic only get 9 months reg.

Three months from the date of expiry then the registration is cancelled.
