    Exclamation Power steer resiour location???

im currently in the place of finding a new spot to place the Power steer resiour in the engine bay.
its old spot was on the battery tray and i have since removed that and now ive lost its mounting.

ive found a perfect spot and got it mounted and sitting nice but one thing that is causing a question is 'is it placed to low?'

its above the rack and about even with the power steer pump in level wise.

will this be ok?? or does it have to be mounted higher then the pump?
its currently mounted under the master cylinder

the olny problem i see is it may not be able to bleed out air properly if its to get any in some how, also when the cars not running if the resivour lower than than pump, the fluid could drain back into the resivour and overflow,

    just a thought

Yeah, as above. the main thing would be to keep the bottom of the reservoir level or above the intake of the pump. Have you thought about a manual rack? I think the VL was the last commy with this as an option. it would clean up the engine bay even more and free up that little bit more power.....

The height of the fluid surface above the pump inlet will be what is most important - the safest approach will be to maintain the original height. I think that from the description, under the M/C will be too low.

Overfilling the reservoir a little may help.

Also consider what happens when the car is accelerating (braking and cornering). Assuming about 1G max. accel. in any direction (conservative; it will be less even under hard braking), tipping the reservoir to 45 degrees (equivalent to 0.71G acceleration on a planet with 0.71G gravity - the result is the same) will show where the level will end up.

Perhaps consider substituting a reservoir from another car - there's heaps around.

    cheers for the imput all,
i think i might have to locate it else where in the car or i might get a custom tank made to fit else where.

EcotecManiac, nah i think ill keep my power steering. my old vl sl had a manual rack and its wasnt so nice i preffer the power steer. just a personal opinion and as for it taking power i just see it as ill need a little bit more to cover it

have you tried to adapt the power steering reservior from a VS V6 commodore, it's mounted next to the radiator. that should be high enough maybe
