    Smile What to buy

    Hi,

Just wanted to get your oppinions on this, soon will be trading in the old lancer to get something more decent both in size and power. Deciding mainly on 2 models either a supercharged 6 or the Gen 3 V8. I have around 15000 to spend so far and i know 15 might be a bit cheap for a v8 but i've seen a few cheapies around (under 150km on the dial.) Obviously a lot of you would say v8 but this one site in particular is pushing more towards the supercharged 6 with its cheap modifications and huge power outputs plus with the added benifits of less fuel usage and low down torque off the line its almost to hard not to agree. Just wondering is it worth it buying one and slowly doing up over the gen 3 or would it be better to get the v8.

    P.S. Sorry for rambling on

    Cheers

Very debatable mate. I would rather a V8 myself, cos they sound better and there is just something about V8's that i cant go past.

The best thing to do would be to try and test drive a few of each and see what you like the feel of. Go for whichever one gives you the biggest tingle in the pants.

As said above, a very debatable decision. Before all the dedicated Gen3 boys get in here I would suggest you ask yourself a few quick questions.

What driving conditions do you spend more time in?

Are you prepared to pay larger premiums, rego, fuel bills?

Are you wanting to eventually push out some ridiculus numbers from the motor?

All these things are vital in the decision making process IMO. If you are doing a lot of general traffic driving and just want something that has a huge burst of power from 0-60/80 kmph , go the super6. If you do a lot of freeway driving and you wanna go to the track regularly, or are just another V8 fan I would go GEN3.

One more thing, you can now pick up a VT S Pac or Calais (S/C) for about 7-10K, then you can easily have that pushing 200+RWKW for less than $4g.

EDIT: I am slightly bias obviously but the points I have made are definately valid...

Yea, i think i am a v8 fan but i think im gonna go with a supercharged 6 as i do alot of city driving and am wanting alot of low down torque. One more question, what sort of mileage should i be looking at for a super6 i am thinking around 150ish is the highest i really want to go as im not really in a position to be rebuilding motors any time soon.

Thanks for the advice guys, its hard to get good good advice around other forums.

If you buy a Gen3, do diff gears, 3000 stall and cam, there wont be many super6's that will put you back in the seat more than that. You also get a car that doesn't sound lie a fart on steroids. Sure the super6 is good for a couple of cheap of mods, but it won't ever run an 11 second 1/4 as a comfortable daily driver.

Tune is included with cam almost always. Wont need an OTRCAI, you would need exhaust. This all up would cost $5k maybe 6.

You will get good millage with a super6 I can get around 550 - 600 ks out of the tank driving around town and I've got 900k's on the highway. As will all cars the more you put your foot down the more fuel you use.

My driving is mostly city driving I dont speed alot (haha) but I would spend around 80 - 100 a fortnight on fuel depending on fuel price as I use BP ult there can be quite a bit of difference in price. If your worried about fuel cost to much a v8 or S/C may not be the best option until you get further into you apprenticeship when the wages get a bit higher

theres not that much difference in fuel cost between the super 6 and a gen 3 in my opinion..both are gonna use alot of fuel when u put the foot down.

id go for a gen 3 just for the pure fact it will pull more power and be more reliable then the 6.. and u can pick up half decent vt-vx gen 3s for around 15k

my mate sold his black fully optioned vx ss for 14k the other week

Besides being the worst sounding car on the road the super 6 goes allright but it's only comparable to a NA 5 litre, the Gen 3 is on another level

GENIII would be a better option IMO, If you don't floor it everywhere you can get great fuel economy on it.
    We got rep back, yaaay!
