Neither, sell them both and buy a VX LS1.

FULLY SICK!
To be honest, if hes giving you the car for a carton of ****, you have to ask what is wrong with it. Whats it going to cost to get it up to decent condition and in the end is it going to be able handle strapping a turbo to the side of it all within a decent price.
Taking all those things into consideration and compare it to the VS, whats wrong with the VS etc etc.
Also think about your goal in the end, do you want a 12 second car or do you want a car you feel is nice to drive, looks good and does allright when you put the foot down.
Overall i would say take the VL off his hands, clean it up real nice and sell it. Being a manual youll get something for it. More than a slab anyway. Take the money stick it into the VS, its going to be a nicer car to drive, it looks better, it handles better and its got more room and is more comfortable... but im sorry, you wont be "Fully Sick"
Thats my opinion.

I'd grab the VL, strip the good parts out of it to sell (especially the manual, if its in good nick), sell the rest to the scrap metal man, and invest the money you get in the VS.

A vl for a carton of ****?? must be a thrashed out pos rust bucket. Comparing my VL 5 speed to my mates VS auto. There is not much of a difference in power, fuel economy is about the same and the VL has a smoother motor while his VS have the hunk of crap buick. It felt rough for a VS. Cant tell you about the difference in handling tho. Mine is lowered, his is stock suspension.
