Default painting my vp, what do i need?

well, im going to respray my car alaskan white.
im going to sand it back with a few mates and im wondering...
what the hell do i need to buy? paint wise.

i've been told u will need the primer 4lt, paint 4lt, and if u want clear thats another 4lt, then u need hardner 1lt

is that all? im sure there might be something else i will need.
and how much would i be looking at it being to respray? i don't want my car baked.. im not gonna pay extra for that. cheers.

You dont put clear over white unless you want it to look like cream and you only need hardner for two pack. You probably want to just get dulon AAA thiner, premium acrylic white and good primer (grey). That's all you will need, you might need more than 4 litres of thinners. Don't start painting the white untill the primer is smooooooooooooooooooth and you will be ok

alright got off the phone to the place where i can get my car resprayed. If i prep it myself and supply paint. It will cost $600-$700. The bloke said i really need to know my ****, because if its not prep'd right it will come out bad. so it all rellys on the preparation. he ALSO said. they only paint 2-Pac paint, not arcrlyic or whatever. I asked him what i would need and he said i need to know he isn't the painter so he isn't sure.

I really need to know what im supposed to do to prep the car right and what paint i will need to make this baby a beautiful shiny alaskan white.

    help guys!

mate if u intend on prepping it yourself go the extra and just paint it yourself...

paint it in acrylic as it will be a ****load easier to fix mistakes and it will come out good if u prep the body well.. 90 percent of the final finish is due to a good working base

why dont u post a couple of pics up to see what condition its in and itl be easier to tell what u need for prep

For surface preperation , if the panelbeater is doing all the painting , then all you need to do is rub the car back. The reason he is saying for you to do the prep, is when he paints it , and does a sh1t job , he can blame you for not prepping it correctly.

What you need to do is:

rub back with 400 wet n dry paper ( use wet )
make sure car is scuffed back completely with no shiny patches left.
hand all relevent paints/thinners/undercoats to guy painting it , the rest he should take care of
Its not what you know or who you know , its how well you can fake it

The paint itself on my car is in bad nick. The previous owner was a tradesman. It has like stain belmishes on it, so really it needs a good sand back. It only has one 'Dint' in the car and thats on the drivers side, below the door where the side skirts run off. its approximatly 20cm long. Its more of a skrape, but deep. I will need to bog that up. i'll get pics up once my car comes out of the workshop. Its currently getting my custom boot installation of my stereo and alarm

Oh and Davo, your from goulburn? You know a michael rodden by anychance? hes a good mate of mine. I was in Goulburn 4 months ago

aslo if you have any spider wed cracking in the paint or really mad scratches youl have to take it down to bare metal in those spots to really fix the problem

    Know Wardy?

Yeah i've got to purchase another front bumper. Its pretty ****ed full of spider web cracking. I need to take the whole car down to metal don't i? or just that spot of the scratch. then bog it up and prime it? Can i paint over the exsisting white paint? i really reckon i should take it all to metal so i have a sweet paint job.
