    Default The great fuel debate...

OK... Who uses what fuel and why? What benefits or drawback (perceived or otherwise) do you get?

Personally, I use regular unleaded (91RON) mainly from Shell and occasionally put a tank of V-Power (98RON) in it.

With the CAI and Exhaust mods though, and the tune to come next week, I'm thinking of trying the 100RON V-Power Racing with 5% ethanol to see if it really does make a difference.

I still hold the view that whatever efficiency and performance benefits there MIGHT be, the extra cost of premium fuels doesn't outweigh the advantages of using it.

    Thoughts?

my personal preference is premium unleaded, in reality there is no point in buying 98+ octane fuel unless your car is tuned for the fuel, running high compression, or have forced induction. but the flip side higher octane fuels burn better and can handle more power

i've run both 91ron in the V6 as well as 95ron and i haven't noticed any major increase if any in economy. the SV tune probably made a better improvement. if you intend to get it tuned properly then definitly have it done on 98ron, that way they will be able to give it more timing which will make it go better

I run straight BP Premium in mine. Mobil as a pure backup, but I'll go out of my way to fill up on BP (and believe me, there are NO BP service stations between me and work )

Looks like BP Ultimate is the preferred fuel both here and on the LS1 forums

Might give it a go for sh*ts and giggles

havnt they been saying that for the last 3 years lol, it wont happen, people will spit chips, fair trading will get involved, petrol people get scarred and prices go back down to 1.20

i use caltex/woolies vortex 95, i want to try another brand but they are all approx 5cents more expensive before the fuel discount, cause ive heard the fuel is shonky from where i get it, and since ive started using from there its been idling like a pig, work used mobil fuels

I use freedom with ethenol (a few cents cheaper) in a standard v6 vp wagon with a 2 1/2 cat back system(cheaper than original) and get great milage and runs well in the city and highway. I get no colour at all in the exhaust pipe.

The only reason we are not paying $1.50+ a litre right now is the aussie dollar. $98US a barrel crude oil has hit man, and its not gonna slow down. To think that people spitting chips and fair trading will get prices back to 1.20 is just ignorance. What the **** does fair trading have to do with it?

I use Mobil Synergy 8000 or BP Ultimate. Depends whats convenient.

Hmmm, it seems like not many people use Caltex, I only use 98RON Caltex Vortex or BP 98RON, whatever has the best RON rating ill get it. I have been told that the normal 91 unleaded can have adverse side effects on your fuel line system, thats a reason for me to put the best in my car. I would use 91RON if I had a old 1970 corola, but in any new car or any good car that you want to keep I would only use the best money can buy.

bp ultimate. Every car I have had the chance to play with fuels, from old & new injected to carb good condition & bad, all responded well to the BP Ultimate compared to shell fuels, BP reg. Never actually tested Caltex but it seems ok

in the way of people start complaining that the prices are too high and acuse the fuel company of profiteering, than the prices drop, well thats what a currant affair and today tonight like to portray.......

Thats purely because A Current Affair and Today Tonight take into account...Nothing. Their logic...Prices high = profiteering... Prices drop = Because we did a story on it or theres an investigation happening.

In 2002, Cruide Oil was as low as $18-$19 US a barrel. Now, just 5 years later it is hitting $98 US a barrel. 5 times the price!!! Even in January this year it was $50US a barrel for a while.

The ONLY reason petrol prices remain low are because the Aussie dollar is 92 cents to the US dollar, which is nullifying the huge increase in crude oil prices.
