    Default Executive or SS

hey guys, new to the forum so id just like to say hi to everyone.

Quick question. Looking to purchase a V8 commodore very soon. Been looking alot on carsales.com.au. Theres some nice ones on there however some of them are commodore executives and some are SS commodores. Is there much of a difference between the exeucutives and the SS's? Is one faster than the other?

look forward to hearing from you

    Thanks guys

Executives are the base model commodore. So V8 executives are just a plain commodore with a V8 - no extras (unless it had factory options added).

The SS's came with more factory options (power options etc.) and a spoiler kit.

They are effectively the same car so you arent going to have one much faster than the other.

ahh k thanks for the response mate. So basically their the same car but the SS has a few more luxuries in it. But their engines are exactly the same...does the ss have better (sports) suspension or is the only difference the interior luxuries?

SS's tend to have more options so they have a little bit more luxury and comfort. Obviously depending on the model your looking at the differences can either be very small or be quite large. Just for examples sake, ill use a VT as a demo. This is taken from Redbook.com.au which allows you to compare cars etc.

VT EXEC 5L MANUAL: standard equipment:

Airbag - Driver, Central Locking - Remote/Keyless, Electric Seat - Drivers, Engine Immobiliser, Independent Rear Suspension, Power Door Mirrors, Power Steering, Radio Cassette, Trip Computer, Velour Trim

VT SS 5L MANUAL: standard equipment:

ABS (Antilock Brakes), Air Conditioning, Airbag - Driver, Alloy Wheels, Body Kit - F&R Spoilers, Skirts, Rear Apron, Central Locking - Remote/Keyless, Electric Seat - Drivers, Engine Immobiliser, Fog Lamps - Front, Independent Rear Suspension, Leather Steering Wheel, Limited Slip Diff, Power Door Mirrors, Power Steering, Radio Cassette, Sports Seats - 1st Row (Front), Suspension - Sports, Trip Computer, Velour Trim.

So you do get some extra items, however, the optional extras on the exec are all/most the standard on the SS and then some, so you might be lucky and find an exec with most the SS stuff anyway. From my latest car searching ive also founnd that more SS's have the HSV enhanced engine rather than the exec's. They also look better with body kit extensions.

Personally i would go the SS, just because its an SS, but you have to be mindful that they do attract a couple of grand more.

The main things to consider are LSD and FE2 on the SS.........the Exec is going to have woeful traction and handle like a boat

no his maths is fine, yours is wrong.

    for example:

    x = 3

    5 > x > 2

X is greater than 2 (Read Middle Right Out)
X is less than 5 (Read Middle Left Out)

If you did anything in quadratics (basic year 10 maths) then you will know this.

    That should get your going.
