ey guys.....looking to buy a v8 commodore really soon however have been starting to reconsider due to the rising petrol prices. Just woundering what people are going to do about this?? if anyone has reconsidered or not bought a v8 because of it? Also if there is any word on how hi they will end up or if there is a chance they will go back down.
Thanks guys look forward to hearing from you
My mum got her BA XR8 converted to gas. Direct Injection kit, can't tell the difference..
Brilliance compromise..
Well, to tell you the truth, from my experience with V8's (not much) its not that bad on fuel if you dont give it stick, if you know how to drive properly to save fuel then you'll be right, on the other hand, if you feel the need to to stab it from the lights all the time then I think fuel will be an issue, its how you drive. Also, depends on how much your going to do to it, the more work you get done, the more fuel she will use.
i heard something on the radio thismorning about a 2-3% stamp duty rise? is this true? shounak how much did it cost to put in and what sorta k's do you get out of a tank?
cheers
ive actually recently downgraded to a v6 from a v8, i had a mint 98 series 2 5.0L vs statesman with leather and a big stereo n a few small engine mods.
i found travelling the long distance to work i was spending about $150 - $170 a week on petrol & never really been a fan of lpg i sold it and bought my vy berlina.
i sold my stato for 12 grand with 115xxx kms i paid 22 grand for the vy with 28xxx kms my petrol bill has gone down to $70 a week the power difference really isnt that much i found the 5.0L sluggish specially beeing auto although i do miss that v8 rumble and my insurance has gone from $200 insured for 15k to $100 a month insured for 22k
It cost $4500, but we got $2000 back. The guy who did our conversion owns an XR8 ute, basically same as ours. He claims gas can give more power, with a bit of tweaking. He races his ute.
As for milage, it's exactly the same as it was on petrol. About 15-16 litres/100km.
I would get gas, if I had a run of the mill V8.
i reckon the newer v8s, like gen 3s are far better on fuel compared to the v6. my brother has a vy ss ute, done a bit of work to it with 250rwkw and he is getting around 8-9l/100km. thats pretty bloody good and not always driving like a granny, but he still whinges about how much he uses in fuel each week
Depends on what you're doing with it. The 6 speed GenIII is awesome on the highway. It just sits at 1500rpm at 100km/h in 6th gear. Much better than the 6.
But try to get anywhere near that in peak hour traffic. Your fuel consumption will come nowhere near a 6.
i got a vs stato s2 5litre. petrol for me is around 90bux per week. thats petrol at around $1.38-$1.48
but with my travelling i drive abt 30kms to work at 12.30am (**** all traffic) and on my way home at around 8.30am (bit of traffic) and 30kms home. so im doing around the 300kms just work driving, but then my days off, i will drive a round abit, mates houses, shopping centres etc...
My speed limit to and from work is an average of 80km zone. Fuel usage is at 12.4 per 100kms (atm)
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
I drive a 5.0L to work and back 35km each way, 5 days a week, speed limit 100, roughly 10L per 100kms when just feathering the throttle. Since I travel alot I have found that filling to half tank is better economy because I dont have to carry as much weight, I use roughly $50 a week on fuel, this is Premium 98 fuel too.
Im going to drive a V8 regardless when i buy one very soon. I dont care about petrol prices, if i did i would go buy a honda civic and drive like a granny.
if u want one u learn to live with the extra costs .... and u can always go buy a ****box 4 banger or moto to comute to work if your a fuel miser

FOR SALE : supra 5 speed box suite holden v8 $800
my car is my daily .. when i was driving to tafe in traffic and doing so around 350kms a week i was using around 80 bucks on juice .. but thats with goin out friday n sat night to.. just depends how u drive .. but ill tell ya they dont like it in the traffic =P .. if u treat it good it will last ya eg i drove a **** load yesterday
alot of freeway driving i used 40litres and i got 300kms... not bad i say
averaging around 8-13L / 100kms .. urban areas for me is around 16-20L / 100kms
full tank urban areas i get 400kms not bad i say for a 70L tank
I've never understood why people would consider buying a V8 if fuel is a concern....
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
- Theodor Seuss Geisel
Exactly, you buy a V8 knowing full and well that its going to use more petrol than most cars. I constantly see people driving V8s complaining about petrol usage and its just annoying. What do you want? V8 power and torque or do you want to drive around like a 40 year old mother of 4 in their fuel efficent 4 door lancer or camry.
You cant have both.
For the love of god dont put it on gas![]()
consider yourselves lucky, 95ron fuel just hit $1.78ltr here last week. filled the other car with 91ron, 55ltrs + 20ltr jerry can, with a 10cent/ltr discount it still cost $123+ change
my VN returned a 11.8lts/100km last week been 90% stop start traffic and included 7 full 1/4mile passes. not bad for an 18yr old car really

Since the original poster hasn't answered my question, nor made any further meaningful contribution to his own thread I'll try to put it all into perspective.
For normal driving a genIII will cost around $3 more per 100 km in the city cycle and maybe around $1.50 extra on the highway than it's 6 cyl peer. For average driving that means around $10 per week more in fuel than you 6 cyl ****ters.
