Hi,

Just a quick question, i bought a VH commodore (unreg) that i am restoring, does the previous owner have to put a notice of disposil in or what?
I dont want to throw 30k into this car then find out i cant register it cause the chassis number is still showing up as the previous owner or anything lol.

You will need a receipt of sale if you're re-registering an unregistered car, that was sold to you by way of private sale. That's in Vic anyway..

Proof of acquisition (eg a receipt for purchase of the vehicle, certificate of registration signed by the previous registered operator/s of the vehicle, or the previous certificate of registration in the same name if re-establishing the vehicle registration).

Thats what the NSW RTA website states. Wonder what happens if i dont have a Certificate of Registration from the previous owner but have a receipt of purchase...

it is pretty easy to transfer rego. some kind of receipt should do it.

generally it's only if the previous owner complains that they'll investigate further.

registration doesn't mean ownership, it just means you get sent the fines and renewal invoices.

u don t need rego papers just a recipt done it a few times u just need to hand the plates in if theres any on it before u can re register it

and the disposal notice is for the sellers benifit not yours because if u get done by a speeding camera or something like that and havnt handed in the disposal notice the fine is sent to the person who used to own it.
