hey guys,
Just curious on how you guys go on fuel economy driving around town for all motors ecotec, s/c, 5.0l and gen 3 as all are on the cards at the moment for me and as it doesnt really bother me as my lancer only gives me about 200 around town im filling up every few days anyway. So yea rough figures would be greatly appreciated but its more likely the v6's are on the cards.
Thanks guys
Mums old VT Ecotec used to get 11-12 L/100Km around town and 8-9 L/100km when highway driving. She doesn't know how to use the accelerator though![]()
If you put premium fuel you will get good economy, and the extra kms makes up for the extra price you pay. Some V8's have better economy than V6s.
anyone have any experiences with the s/c engine's? is there much difference between that and a v6 or even that and a v8 if pushed?
I was just talking to a friend of a friend who has a supercharged V6 VT SS and I asked him what economy he gets for you and he said that he gets around 14-15 L/100km around the city but he isn't sure on what the highway economy is.
Alot of super 6 owners swear they get waaaaaay under 10l//100 on the highway but then alot of super 6 owners think alot of things that aren't exactly the complete truth. My VP 5 litre made 10.5 litres per 100 last time but that was about 70% highway driving if not more and I have it running about as lean as you would want to go so I wouldn't count that as normal for one. My Mums AU Falcon will return under 10l/100 without any problems, wellllllllll under that on pure highway and it's a faster car than a VT-VY V6. My Dad's BF sits in the low 10s on average so don't forget to look at some Fords. I'd be buying a Honda Jazz or whatever they are called
the get like 6l/100
With a v6, it is possible to replicate the aus government standards for city and highway driving. Fuel Consumption Guide Database 1986-2003 which are basically:
7L/100km petrol highway, 12L/100km city cycle.
I can easily achieve these and do better than the city cycle. It is important to realise that city cycle means a lot of different things to people. If you are trundling around the suburbs at 60km/h and only encounter traffic lights every 2-3km, you'll do better than 12L/100km, if its peak hour grid lock in sydney then expect 20+L/100km. The comm is a heavy car but has excellent aerodynamics, if you can avoid stopping and starting every km, your fuel bill will nearly halve.
in my stato i get 11.9-13.4 per 100 kms, depenz how im going... Should ask (geoff) wagon wheel what his is in his clubby.. lol.... 20.0 or just under atm.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
With my VY V6 manual, i can get anywhere from 10 - 13L / 100 (depending on my right foot hehehe) in city and on highway anywhere between 8 - 10L / 100....
Our VX-II Lumina Ecotec auto returned an amazing 8.8lt/100k on our last holiday. That was on the loooong stretch from Emerald out to Barcaldine sitting around the posted 110km/hr. That was with me, the wife, and my two sons, both of whom are over 6 feet tall and built like brick sh1tehouses, and a bootload of gear. The total for the entire holiday period we were away (long highway distances at 110 fully loaded, several blasts up and down nice twisty ranges, and many kilometers plodding around towns and tourist sites) the average we got was just over 11 lt/100km.
One reason I love these things is that you can load the crap out of them, head out on the highway, and you can get four cylinder fuel economy. If you did the same as we did with a Corolla or something, I doubt you'd get that sort of economy.
A guy at work has a 2005 Monaro, 5.7ltr six speed, and on the highway sitting on the speed limit, he gets similar economy (of course it likes a drink around town...).
The only car I would consider replacing our Lumina with would be a turbo diesel car...no use trying to jam ourselves into a small petrol four cylinder to attempt to get better economy...I doubt we would use much less fuel.
I Did a return trip to Warnambool on the weekend, 520k's in total, averaged 9.3. Which isn't bad considering the drive down was in pouring rain pushing the average up.

in my stock vs v6 i get around 420-440 driving around town...but it when it comes to long distance freeway driving i get great economy 600...600+ a few times
Ahh i see another question because i was most likely going to go supercharged version then maybe upgrade with 10psi pully, and as it makes just as much power as the v8 i was just wondering would it be worht it really to get that over the gen 3 in both fuel economy and price of the car ?
Well it really depends on what you want to drive, both engines are good, though if it was me i would go the V8 over the S/C V6, mainly cause of the sound of a V8 gotta love that, though yeah depends what you want.. The S/C V6 will use less fuel in the city though the V8 will use less country k's so you also gotta see what your using the car for..
Also with performace the S/C V6 would probably win to 100 though after that the V8 will win....
City driving my 5L v8 manual does anywhere from 14-20L per 100. Needs a good tune I reckon.
on the highway, I have gotten to adelaide on one tank (722km) & the computer was reporting 10L per 100. This was with 4x extra wheels and two relatively heavy passengers.![]()
