    Default vs auto vs manual

appart from the obvious benefits of a manual what do you guys think in terms of reliabilty, fuel economy etc. when it comes to an auto vs manual commy....
i was thinking of converting it to manual because i aint the biggest fan of this vs auto transmission, does the job but nothing special, but not sure if its quite worth changing it over?

    Hey Mate

i rekon its defently worth having a manual, alot more fun, fuel economys a little better, though there is also some disadvantages, like peak hour traffic, with converting yours to manual, if your planning on keeping the car for a long time eg 5 years+ go for it, also are you doing it all your self ??

If not its gona cost you like 3K so probably not worth it, IMHO, though then again its up 2 you....

hey mate, i converted my old 93 vr to manual when the auto died, and it was the best thing i ever did. i easily managed another 100+ kms per tank of fuel after the conversion, and the car was a hell of a lot quicker, aparrently you lose about 10% of the engines power output to the automatic transmission. it cost me $3200 for everything, and i think it was definately worth it, even though the car was written off about six months later. the extra enjoyment i got from the car was well worth the cost. just my 2 cents

i bought a conversion kit from ebay for $1800, off a place called CJ's holden spares, it had everything needed to convert to manual. installation by my mechanic was $600, and then it was just some misc things like a heavy duty clutch, flywheel machining and a new spigget bearing that made up the rest. its a good idea to have a good look around quite a few mechanics, because i was quoted $2000 just to install the transmission from another company.

you mean the cover plate that holds the cigarette lighter and the small compartment? that was included in the kit, but it would be very easy to find from a holden spares shop

My auto failed in Emerald QLD and it cost me $2,800 to rebuild, perhaps wait till this possibly happens.
