    Default Ignition Barrel

    Hello Guys,

Last night the ignition barrell in my sisters vr jammed. I am on my way out this morning to get a new barrell for her. Because the car is fitted with that those little striker plate thingy's for the imobiliser, at the ignition.

Do I need to get a new key or can the new barrell be modifyed to suit the old key.

Can someone give me a quick rundown on how to do so.

Also how do you get the old barrell out thats jamed, I have removed the barrell and the holder that it slides into by undoing the domed head bolt, now I just need to remove the barrell to install the new one.

Any help is muchly appreciated, thanks

    Jason

New ignition barrel costs about $46.00 from a genuine holden dealer.

It comes in a plastic bag.

if you look at it it will have a heap of little brass slides that slot into the barrel.
you get a heap of these but only the ones that suit your 'key code" are the ones you use.

    They are numbered.

Not sure how to get the barrel out , probably a sirclip ir somthing.

But if you do get the barrel out do not let any of the little brass slides fall out because they are in the particular order "sequence" that will only fit your key.

Sit the barrel on a table draw a diagram roughly showing front and back of the barrel.
and which is top and bottom.

remove the first little slide and read the number on it and write it down, do this for the whole row and the other side and record which side is which.

Then you will have your key code.

With your new barrel simply insert the little slides in the exact order as the old one (a copy).

you will have slides left over.

be carful as it is hard not to drop em as they fall out.

when you have put the new one together in the exact same way as the old one, your key will work with it.

...If you really cant confidently remove the barrel take it to an auto locksmith.

    cheers
