Guys,
I am looking at a new long term project. I have a chance to buy a VN Calais 5.0 Litre, Climate etc 288k's for 3k, is it worth taking, car is straight etc, or can i do cheaper?

if it's an auto, give it a close going over. at 300k if it's still original it won't last forever. once that goes it becomes expensive.
any slippage when changing gear or holding gears too long, and i'd walk away.
Why is everyone so mean to cars that have done lots of kms? mine has done 360,000. Saying that I paid $2000 for mine lol But my attitude is as I slowly replace things it will eventually have all new running gear.
Like you said if your gonna replace the engine & box it doesnt really matter.
If I owned it you wouldn't get it for 2K, the running gear is worth $1500 min and if it's straight and going to get a rebuild and has some rego 3K is pretty good.
3k id a fair price if its got nothing wrong with it i mean u can get more if u parted it off

I thought your project is your Senator. Wouldn't you just spend the money on that first??
Offered 2k, got told to jam it, the car has no rust, perfect interior etc. So i think i will be paying the 3k. Engine seems fine, no bottom end issues from what i can tell, no valve issues.
The Senator is a cruiser, something i spend not a heap of money on to still have a quickish car, this car will be more of a project that takes me 2-3 years to finish, perhaps a different engine trans setup etc. Very long term project. Besides, the VN is a sexy car, if the old man won't let me do anything to the SV may as well get my own VN to play with.

HAH, the SV5000 hasn't left storage in a while now, gets started and run for 10-15 minutes a month. I will just hand over the 3k, they will go less without RWC, but by keeping the Rwc makes it easier to move around
mmm, L98, 6 speed manual, twin turbo? Sounds nice, good luck with me talking the Mrs into letting me do that lol. Around 25k for that setup![]()

if you're going to go spaz on it, different engine etc... what's the point of starting with a 5.0 calais?
go for one of many 300 dollar straight, rust free, crash free, non-stolen, vn execs, and go from there! the remaining 2700 can buy a nice turbo or two![]()

haha im in the same boat but going a different way... i have made my vn my project car for the next year or so. however im not going for the big v8 like very man and his dog has gone, im just keeping the v6 in there and giving it a full rebuild, same with gearbox... not gonna give too many details out just yet, but its good to see more vns turning into projects and hopefully show cars or similar, good luck with it minux
