the other night i done a few circles, then i took off and my car drove through 1st and 2nd good then changed into third and it just revs and goes nowhere, i tiped up the fluid and tested it the next morning but was the same, si i left it sit for the weekend and picked it up on monday and it had no 2nd gear either from just sitting there, but it still has reverse and 1st gear. the trans didn't get hot either while doing the circles, and it doesn't make any noises or smell, any help.
Not an expert on trannies - but when the V8 tranny did that to me - ie locked in first.
Needed a replacement tranny. $900 odd later alls good. I still have the old tranny in the shed waiting for a rebuild later.

it's not locked in first, it just doesn't engage in the other gears it still changes up gears.
As long as your tv cable is adjusted properly and the oil level is right........You may have a sheared off drive (plastic gear) or something sticking on the governor that is the control to change gears as your speed increases...happenned to me....also check to make sure your coolant isnt getting into the oil via the a pipe in the radiator pin holeing giving it a pinky look...happenned to me at the same time...not totally sure one caused the other ....It was my brothers car and he didnt have any of the right coolant in the water.
Unfortunately the governor replacement if that is the cause is probably a auto tranny mechanics job.

there are a number of things that can go wrong in trannies, but it sounds like it's on the way out.
autos change gear by engaging different gear sets, using hydraulic pressure to apply clutches.
what happens is the seals go, and there is not enough pressure to apply the clutch packs that effect a gear change. it's like driving around with the clutch in. once that happens, it's all over, there's no easy fix.
spewing, i suppose it was well over due, the damn things done at least 1 patch of circles almost every weekend since i fitted the spool 6 months ago, i think i'll stop now, i got a CR 125 to have my fun with now anyway
my trans has done the same thing does any one know were i can get a new one from?
