    Default 98 octane fuel

Ok so i normally fill up with some cheap 95 oct fuel thats for some reason cheaper than then 91 but this one day i filled up with BP ultimate 98 now i noticed a big difference with starting the car up it as it started really smooth where as before it use to only just wanna get going. So my question is how much better for the engine will it be and does it last as long as 91 oct?

    98 octane fuel burns a bit cleaner than 95 / 91 octane..........

that cheaper 95 octane fuel is 10% ethanol mix, and yes 98 fuel does make a differance

I never fill up with 91 octane as it has now turned into a ****e fuel.
    BP ultimate all the way.

agreed, did you notice that the alloytec rumbles around a bit at idle on regular and is slow on take off,

whereas 98 makes it idle like a dream and rids it of the doughy off idle accelleration

Had to use 95 on a trip from Adelaide to Sydney (not like you can be picky out there) and the car didn't like it at all. Was glad when i got to sydney (although it took me a while to grasp their streets, and find a BP haha)

Yep i agree, BP ultimate FTW!! I used to use shell Vpower a while ago, about 6 months ago i switched to BP Ultimate. Best move i ever made, once i had run a full tank of Ultimate through the engine, it DID idle a hell of alot smoother as opposed to a more rough idle from the Vpower.

    BP Ultimate =

And hey, petrol prices don't shiz me that much, because if it still costs me under $100 to fill my tank, i'm happy.

Why is everyone's(appears to be everyone's) car running so poorly on the 91 octane fuel they were supposedly designed to run on. There must be just and issue with the quality of the fuels which needs to be addressed, one shouldnt need to waste money on higher octane fuel.
My vx runs smooth as with whatever I put in it.....maybe Im just not refined enough to notice any difference.

Don't get me wrong, my car ran alright on 91 octane fuel, but it runs BETTER on 98 octane (for obvious reasons), so i would rather pay the extra money and have my car running a little better.

If thats true why does it say in the owners handbook 91 is only for emergencies? always use 95 or higher.

Regular unleaded is 91 octane? not sure.

Can only go by what is in the manual for my vx, not sure what manual is being quoted ^.
It says, use unleaded petrol of at least 91 octane, higher octane maybe used but is not required for your car.

It specifies for supercharged engines that 95 octane is recommended, but will perform satisfactorily on 91 octane......use in emergencies or otherwise is not mentioned.

Ok had another look in the book and it sais -

Originally your car will have the 95 mark uppermost, and it is recommended that your car be operated on 95 or higher rated fuel.

If this is not available 91 rated fuel may be used in emergencies until the higher rated fuel is available again.

This is straight out of the owners handbook for my 94 VR.

when i bought my car i doubt that it ever had premium go through it and it was making a few noises on start up and idle but i filled up with BP ULT 98 and it started to get better and better, iv put about 10,000kms worth of it through the engine now and the economy is at a steady 10.5Lper/100kms and goes like a dream never missing a beat. car seems to enjoy it and 10-15c more aint that much hey.

It's worth the extra 10 - 15 cents just for the smoothness!

Not only for power and running better but the 98 has teh right gear for keeping internals cleaner. My old camry runs just the same one either, bit i get a few more k's from 98 and the oil looks way better than it used to when i dump it for a service. anything to prolong the life of an engine is worth a few extra cents.

Yeah but it's gay and unless you have a nice engine tuned for LPG (stroker etc) then LPG is gay IMO. There's no getting through to most of us vic chapter boys. Most of us hate LPG. lol. Marcus gets paid out on a regular basis hahahaha.
