    Default Diy Cai

a mate and i are looking at making our own CAIs, has anyone done this before, and does anyone know any of the finer details, like design specs to maximise the gains of cold air, ie surface area measurements and the extent to which the volume of air is beneficial.

    cheers.

There has been a lot of discussion on this in the past, a search will yield a lot of results.

A CAI won't give you any real benefits apart from a bit more cruising economy. The best bang for buck CAI is the S/C V6 Holden one, about $50.

You cant make your own CAI, its impossible and don't even bother searching for it.

uhh, making my own CAI would be impossible? Basically was just looking at doing it for something to do rather than saving a little bit of money.

but yeah, will probably just end up buying the supercharged6 CAI like NAAF suggested.

    Edit: elaborate, n/a engine?

it has been done with PVC pipe, you can make a CAI at home, all you ahve to do is ensure that the air intake is 100% sealed and is only taking in air from outside of the engine bay.

To go a step or so further you can as you said make it an efficient air intake with minimal resistance.

After you ahve had your fun making one you will probably find the $50 holden one well worth the buy.

yeh the holden one is awesome buy, i bought it and put it on my vr v6 when i had it, with a k+n panel filter, worked a treat, cost me bout $70 for the s/c v6 cai, but thats cause i needed the vs airbox aswell as mine was slightly diferent with where the entry whole was positioned from memory, was a couple of years ago though, went well with it, gwd luck if u make your own for a bit of fun, got nothing to loose
