That as well as engine internal damage, upholstery damage, fish hiding in gloveboxes....![]()
all depends, i know of a couple of car getting round at town, 1 is a vn that was fully immersed in FRESH water, still going strong today, other is a ve, that sucked a gutfull of water in the engine happened in december still going strong
car that have been drenched in salt water kill em, don't bother with them, fresh water will most likely just dry up and life will go on,
ive been told cars that are written off due to water is more towards the insurance side of it, insurers wont cover a car that's been water damaged (even if water only got as far as the sills) same with hail, they wont cover cars until all dints are fixed
if you find a micky mouse car that supposedly water damaged, find out what kind, salt/fresh and go from there, most will be repairable write-offs so rego shouldn't be to much of a worry if its been inspected i guess,
cant go wrong with the prices of them, just change all fluids if you get one

ideas on things that need a good looking at engine/tranny wise?
see if the air filter has had water in it or on it, see what colour the oil in the trans & engine is, if its milky dont give up on it but see how much the oil level is overfilled, not that that helps on an ecotec with them burning a bit of oil hehe,
if you can start it, see how it runs, if it sounds tight and nice it could be a goer, ill take it that its at an auction group, check it out with them if you can take a socket set and a screw driver, rip the intake pipe off the throttle body, if you can see signs that water has been in the intake think it over, it may not be that bad still,
the intakes on the ecotec and alloytecs and gen111 are high so if you can see sign of where the water level has been ie, over the bonnet maybe give it a miss, if its been upto the headlight go for it!
