    Default Do Injector Cleaners work?

I have a VS V6 commodore and wanted to know if Injector Cleaners really work?

Im looking at an injector cleaner just as Petrol Injector Cleaner - Nulon Products Australia

My commodore has a bit of a flat spot and a not the best fuel consumption, So Im wondering if I add some injector cleaner will this help.

I have also heard that injector cleaners can damage the internal parts of the fuel system, Is this true?

Also if I run this, When should I add it to the tank, At the moment I have a full tank of Vortex 98

    Thanks Dale

best bet is to rip the injectors out and take them to a shop that uses an ultrasonic cleaner, they will also replace the pintle caps, o-rings and filter buckets,

the most expensive way to do it is to leave the car for them to pull apart, but if your handy with a spanner, remove them yourself and take em in to save some dollars, when you re-install them lubricate the seals with engine oil if not you may pinch the o-rings,

once you done that chuck some injector cleaner in with high octane fuel,

have you done a major service recently? plugs, leads, cleaned throttle body etc?

I had a service done which replaced the plugs, leads but not sure about the throttle body. I would like to get that done.

But in the mean time, Will I get some benefit from the injector cleaner liquid?

    Thanks

running injector cleaner isn't going to hurt the fuel system. when was the last time you changed the fuel filter? injector cleaner isn't so important if you always run 98 octane fuel as these contain more addatives already to help keep the fuel system clean. i generally try and run a bottle every 3months (when i remember)

Fuel filter was changed 2 days ago, as were the plugs and leads

I always try to run them through my car every 2,500kms. A holden tech once told me that the ecotec motors have a real small tolerance for build up in the injectors...

$12 bucks isnt too bad every 3 months for what it supposedly does..

    So I say why not...

Roughly 4 table spoons of metho, using a full bottle is way overkill and you will get picked up by the epa with a big fine. But remember metho is ownly used for the absorbtion of water in the fuel tank not carbon build up on the injector baskets and needles. The only way to rid that problem is to have a carbon clean with the proper machine or get your injectors cleaned and run good fuel with injector cleaner.

best thing to do is make sure your on top of your services and you have a good fuel filter, dont bother with the in the tank cleaners (maybe every now and then) and take it somwere for about 50$ they will disconnect your fuel lines and fuel pump and hook up a injection cleaning system, we done them at my old work and only heard good things from customers, so long as your fuel filter is good you dont get foreign matter clogging your injectors, when you turn off the car the un used petrol sits in the injectors and bakes and slowly slowly starts to clog them, if you do this your fuel econmy will be great.
