Default What to do with the oil

Here's one for the home mechanics. What do you do with your old oil when you give your car an oil change ? When i lived at home , my father used to add red oxide to it and paint the fences with it . When i moved out i used to take it to work and put it in the contaminated oil drum which was later picked up and disposed of. Now i have a shed with about 10 x 5 litre containers which i have to dispose of . Anyone know of a place in Dandenong where i could take them ?
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't

Most tips have a recycling section for oil. Failing that, give your local workshops a ring and ask if you can tip your oil into their drums.

Yeah most tips will have some where u can pour it for free now. They use to charge (well atleast our local one did) but people where just pouring it down drains so they made it free lol. I have a 20 litre drum all mine goes into, then when its full i just empty it down the tip.

I either put it on the fence post, or take it down to the local servo (with mechanics attached) and they get rid of it. They also take my old batterys.

I take to my mechanic across the road and he lets me dump it into his drums. One guy around my area was busted for it tipping it down the drains. Apparently the council can trace where the oil came from / which drain / house when it gets poured down a drain.

bout time they made it free to dispose of at the tip. Used to charge $13 no matter what volume, I just left it out the front of the tip for them to pick up out of disgust
