Hey dudes, im currently doing a twin piston upgrade on my clubby.
Went to put on new calipers, and the shield that sits behind where the rotors do, the gap for the calipers is too small now.
Is this shield even important at all? ie. can i just drill out the rivets and not use it at all?
Cause i attempted to cut out part of it but its a pain in the ass, and also noticed one of the taps holding it on is already broken..
Heres a pic just to show you what i mean, this is the top part, there is a bottom part too.
Any advice much appreciated,
Cheers,
Geoff
Its just to stop dust etc. getting into the calipers. Should be fine for you to remove it.
get rid of it. doesn't do crap. my VN doens't have em at all, neither did VeePee's either from memory

Yes, it was a running change introduced during the VN model (and a service fix on VN's where owners complained) as a fix to avoid complaints about poor wet weather braking performance.
They probably won't be missed, as I have driven for a while (including on wet roads), with a shield on one side and not on the other without any noticeable difference in braking performance ie. the car didn't pull to either side under those conditions.
