When towing your car using a dolly trailer (The type of car trailer where the two front wheel are on the trailer while the two back wheels are on the road) is it ok to just stick it in neutral while being towed or would the tailshaft have to be disconnected from the diff. I know that in some rwd cars the tailshaft must be disconnected while in others it doesent. Not sure about commodores. Help would be appreciated, thanks.
Never be afraid to try new things; remember amateurs build the ark while professionals build the Titanic.
A lot depends on how far you are going to tow it,most auto's have the pump on the input shaft and therefore no oil through the system,in other words you will kill it.
Why not lift the rear wheels instead

Wouldn't the front wheels turn?

I have seen a few times its always the front wheels dragging. Not sure how they do it but if the car was going wouldnt the front wheels follow along like a shopping trolleys wheels? i cannot see them locking 1 way, correct me if im wrong.
Dylan
wouldnt they just lock the steering
Adam
Not so much. Just grab a length of rope and loop it through the steering wheel; then hold both ends out the front of the drivers side door and close it. That's the best way of doing it. Keeps the wheel from moving too far.
