    Default Spark Plugs and Leads

I'm changing my spark plugs soon and just wondering if anyone has had any experience in changing theirs? Im looking for something 'above average'. There was some at repco with 4 electrodes, now im guessing these are better with the normal ones with 2 electrodes? What are some decent brands of leads aswell?

    cheers

I have those and also found them very good. TopGun are also a popular choice.

Don't waste your money buying expensive leads and plugs unless you've upgraded your ignition system. You can pay the extra if you want but won't notice any 'performance' increase. Just stick with what Holden recommend.

what makes them good? runs smoother or?

I was thinking of getting an MSD system, but i've heard some interesting stories about them actually screwing up the timing because its considered 'loud' for the knock sensors and retards the engine...

Im not after HP gains, just want a bit of an upgrade

I chucked some top gun 8.8mm leads and v-groove plugs on my L300 1.8L auto van.....I actually felt a slight improvement, I couldn't believe it haha. It nearly has enuf power to bag it up!

Love how people think plugs and leads really make a difference on stockish cars. Heck even mildy worked cars can use OEM.

Save yourself some cash, use standard NGK plugs with standard Holden leads.

Plugs you buy are NGK BPR6EF about $28 a set Why waste your money on expensive crap when it offers no improvement?

I think the improvement some people think they get is nothing more than the fact they are using NEW plugs. Stock vs stock plugs... new ones will always be better.

    pretty much lol

my cars done just over 40000km so i thought they needed to be changed soon. white vn ss said that the plugs in the vz last for about 90000k which i didnt know, In my vy i changed em every 2nd service.

So i guess my question now is quality wise, are OEM plugs and leads the same as aftermarket?

Spot on, even then, I am yet to have a car where i notice a difference from changing plugs. If the plugs have got so bad that you notice a difference after changing them, there is something wrong lol.

The LS1 plugs are that iridium or platinum crap. Like you would leave them in for 90,000.

Use OEM leads, NGK plugs as i posted. Quality wise they are just as good

I've found the best way to get the most out of a set of plugs is to take them out every 50,000km and soak them in some petrol and give them a good scrub up. And if they've got any deposits on them, just give them a file back. Works a treat and saves $$$$$

I run the NGK Iridium IX plugs and I find them excellent. No power difference but it smoothed the idle out nicely.

I also have Top Gun leads, and they are a COMPLETE WASTE of time. Don't bother getting aftermarket leads unless you do some big work, and even then only get magnacore. Not Top Gun ****.

I woudnt waste my dosh on exy plugs and leads either. Your car will run better if you change your sparks regularly with stock ones, as opposed to aftermarket expensives that you can leave in for longer.

haha I kept my NGK iridiums in my VN for 2 years, lots and lots of kms, and changed them yesterday. They were f*@ked. The little short terminals were barely existant at all. At all. So yes, stock replacements worked wonders for her and I'm not imagining it.

When i got the leads and plugs ganged on my old S1 VT the garage were very supprised that the car was still running with the condition that the leads were in. Im not too sure how long they had been on the car but they got changed when i did my 120000km service.

How long should a set of leads last for? is there any way of checking them to see if they are still ok or need replacement?
