I was driving home last night from the sunshine coast; it was nighttime and lightly raining. Driving on the motorway no probs then I all of a sudden I could see NOTHING... the headlights and foglights were on but it was like the ground was absorbing all the light from both, so there as a period of about 400m that I was driving 100% blind. Not a feeling I want to have again, so I thought I’d go and get some decent bulbs for all the lights.
Open the bonnet
Look at the headlights
Turns out there’s 2 types of low beam (H11 and H4) and 2 types of high beam (H9 and H1) written on it....oooook so which one?
Went into autobarn, "H1 in low beam and H3 in high beam" ...silly autobarn lol
Take the bumper off, took one of the headlight assembles out. H11 for low beam and H9 for high beam. Looked at the foglights and its a H3, to easy I know there’s blue/crystal vision in H3, not an issue
Turns out Philips don’t make H9 and H11 bulbs in the blue/crystal vision range... Why the **** did Holden put in those bulb types! I can replace them but only with the same bulb, not with a bulb that’s better, which is the whole point of me changing it over so I don’t crash into **** when I cant see...
So is there any bulbs out there in H9 and H11 that are a million times better then the crap that’s in there now?
get a set of H9 high beamss, get a hobby knife... remove the small tab inside the plug hole which prevents you from using them in the H11 low beam plug.
viola! brighter light on low beams! also, there is a way to change the wires around so as the low beams stay on when the high beams are put on.
How come you took off the bumper to remove the lights? They come out pretty easily without dropping the bumper.
On the lights, i went into this and was told that a crystal globe was coming out shortly for these lights but who knows for sure when.
From memorey there is 4 screws holding the light in place?
I just undone those and undone the screws holding the centre grill on just to give me room to wiggle the headlights out, easy peasy japanesey!
I did this mod with my monaro head lights i can tell u that, that lil mod is the best lil mode u can do with out spending any money wat so eva and ur only using a bulb thats 10W greater than the original low beam so no way of melting nething and u get at least 30% more light on the road.
I went through the same prob as u lookin 4 better bulbs i found a set on ebay that seems 2 b pretty good but u must use the mod 4 them 2 b good Mtec the brand is but u have 2 get the super white type only $60 4 both bulbs sets. If i wanted somthing in comparison on aftermarket on the shelf i was lookin at $200 4 a pair thats just rediculous![]()

On further investigating, im getting a HID kit. lol Ive found out that its actually not illegal to have them in projector style headlights as they prodoces a fixed pattern that cant be changed no matter what bulb setup is placed behind it. I've seen countless before and after photos and theres no difference in the light pattern, just its intensity. Which is what im after.
Im getting a H11 50watt HID kit and some LED wedge parker bulbs. for $257 But i havent decided on the temperature yet, 4300k or 6000k
That would be because you haven't got your headlights adjusted properly. Park your car side on to a wall at night and if its going up then its too high.
your beams are supposed to go down 2inchs every 15feet or something like that
HID kits are illegal. only cars that come with HID's stock with auto washers and auto levellers are legal.
BUT ive got a 55watt hid kit in my car with modified altezza projectors and i wouldn't go backblue cutoff line ftw
There’s no law against it as of yet, it’s a very grey area atm. Auto levellers and washers are a rumour. Most imported cars into Australia I.e. Hondas don’t have auto washers. Not sure about levellers.
From the research I’ve done the police won’t do anything about them if they look normal. It’s only the people that put them into none projector style headlights that cop **** because the beam isn’t focused and controlled and just goes everywhere blinding everyone. But due to the SS and HSV projector lenses design the light is focused the same way as if it was a halogen bulb, just a more intense and cleaner light. They may not be legal yet, but they’re not illegal either.
From all the people over in LS1, none have said they’ve received any flashes from other drivers due to their lights being to bright to not focused. Blinding someone is just as dangerous as driving with no lights at all IMHO
where did ya find that kit man ebay?

Nar not eBay. There’s a company called gadget master that sells OEM HID kits. Just not at ridiculous prices
I cant give the link (forum rules) but its at LS1, search for projector headlights as the topic name. Read it from back to front. Will totally change you mind about HID!
Another forum member and myself are organising a group buy, so if you or anyone else is interested let me know, we’ll get a bit of a discount.
Man how many times does this need to be said. HID's are illegal. You keep saying they are fine in all these HID/Xenon threads and then when the evidence is put clearly in front of you you seem to ignore it.
If you don't know, then don't say there isn't purely because you havent heard one.
Look up ECE Regulation 48. R48 — Installation of lighting and light-signalling devices. "Vehicles equipped with HID headlamps are required by ECE regulation 48 also to be equipped with headlamp lens cleaning systems and automatic beam levelling control. Both of these measures are intended to reduce the tendency for high-output headlamps to cause high levels of glare to other road users."
Australia and New Zealand are two of over 50 participating countries in the ECE regulations which are set by the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations.
Japan is also a participating country, so Honda's should also be fitted with some sort of devices that meet ECE regulations.
ECE regulations provide minimum requirements for other australian rules also, such as aftermarket steering wheels.
Yeah agreed... but this is the only thread where ive said that due to reading other peoples experiences with these kits.
My headlights are ****. Period, I don’t feel very comfortable driving at night cus there not bright enough. Believe me im researching it. Looking at as many photos as I can. All the photos i've seen, on my type of car, the beam pattern is the exactly same. I not/don’t talking/care about other cars. Just the SS/HSV style projectors. I've been getting testimonials from everyone that’s done it, asking about the performance, have you been flashed due to them being blinding to over road users, have you been pulled over, some have even had them covered under insurance! But all the questions have been answered positively.
I know exactly where you’re coming from with the laws. But what about 4wds? Their height makes it extremely hard to see when they're coming towards you when there fitted with a factory HID kit, but yet that’s legal?
My argument is that the laws that are in place are very grey due to the short period that HID kits have been available to the consumer market.
How bout tryin the mod 1st then deciding man? trust me u'll see a big difference havin 65W globes compared 2 normal 55W.

Nar they stay as is, you can get a H9 kit to go in which some people have done with great results, but I don’t really have an issue with the high beams, just the low atm. Some have said that after changing the low beam that the high beam looks yellow against it so they've changed it over. Something i'll have to see for myself.
Make sure you purchase a German HID kit, which available here only leaves Phillips I believe.
