This post is SA people.
So word is that the ol 2 inch rule is goin to be scrapped in relation to wheel sizes.
The word has been going around in some police circles. Some know, some dont know.
But it is official and will be happening soon. Legislation is just waiting to be passed thats all.
So what does this mean?
Well you can have bigger rims any size providing that you are:
Still maintaining an overall tyre diameter by no more or less than 15mm.
That it is an acceptable tyre/rim combination
The load rating is the same or better than what your placard states.
You are still in track for your make/model.
Nothing scrubs or rubs or fowls on any body work or suspension component.
about time this happened. now i can get my 19's![]()
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
SA takes another step away from the stone age ey? no doubt theres still going to be a lot of confusion over it for years to come still. there still plenty of people in vic that think the 2 inch rule applies to us

^^^ No, not 20's here you come...
Your next hurdle is load ratings if you want 20's... And i don't think they produce a tyre that will have the required load rating in the profile you would need to still stay within the 15mm extra diameter rule...
Could be wrong but... but i know its an issue with people wanting to put 20's on VT's.
Yes just looking at a Tyre Rim Manual and finding some 20's will be very tricky not without goin way over the overall diameter of 15mm. Unless you have your speedo re calibrated.
There may be some real cheap Japanese style tyres out there??? Not sure if i would buy them though.
Though there are a wider selection of 19s to go for.
As if you would have crapy ride quality anyway, 17's ftw!
Its not so much to do with the speedo if you go over 15mm.
You would need to have the car engineered for the new diameter to make sure the brakes are still adequate given the increased torque they will be put under when you are braking because of the increase in rolling travel...
(That sorta made sense...lol)
But yeah, its got more to do with your brakes rather than speedo in the case of the 15mm rule.
Its $385 to have any wheel size past. Given that it doesnt scrub on body work / suspension components and that load ratings of tyres are met or exceeded. My wheels will be engineered next week.
Im not gona get mine engineered if they're gonna past this law!!! Very excite!
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
Its not a law its simply updating the ADR's. If you get a cop who doesnt know about the changes youl still get a canary. At the moment ill treat it as a rumour and get my engineers reports and wave goodbye to regency![]()
Fair call!!!

A further update:-
The regulations to be changed are these:
Road Traffic (Misc) Regulations 1999
ROAD TRAFFIC (MISCELLANEOUS) REGULATIONS 1999 - REG 26
These are the local rules hence this is why SA are still using the ol 2inch rule.
Once these regulations have changed/upgraded (soonish) then we will be able to upgrade bigger than 2 sizes.
i still think 20s looks stupid on most cars. I think 18s/19s looks sweet, any bigger and it looks ridiculous as well as a stupidly hard ride.

Yeah, I do think 20's on the street look a little odd...and the ride quality has to be laughable...
It all depends on the size of the car though and the wheel arches...now that I'm making real money in my new job, the car we are lining up to buy (once the warantee on the Lumina runs out later this year), a 300C Chrysler V6 diesel, has 18" wheels standard, and they actually manage to look a little small from some angles.
Im not sure how much ride quality comes into it, I can't feel a difference between my 16's with a 50 profile and my 19's with a 35 profile. But 16" to 15" there is a massive difference. I think once you cross the low profile line, any differences are minimal.
^^...Id have to agree with that...^^
