Hi guys,
Unfortunately i hit a pothole the other day, and i buckled my front left and rear left rims (VY SS 18"x8).
Now, i have replaced one of them with the spare, and the other is still on the car. There is a slight vibration still though so it needs to be replaced.
Now my questions...
1. I am thinking about just replacing one, and leaving the spare as the buckled one... is this legal though?.. it isn't that buckled!
2. If legally i have to replace both of them, should i buy 2 replacement rims, or just buy 4 new rims? I am thinking 18"x8 VE SS rims, as 19" holden/hsv rims are way too much at current, plus if i get 18" i get to keep my tyres. Or i could go for some aftermarket 19" ones?
Let me know what you all think!
Thanks,
Adam
depending on condition you can get them repaired, which would be cheaper than replacing
We got rep back, yaaay!
If not i might be intersted in buying them from ya. Ive currently got 2 damaged VY SS 18" rims as well... looking for a cheap replacement.
Let me know
(Sorry mods if this sort of post is against the rules)
And ill buy the 4 damaged ones from you... I need a new driving challenge
J.k with this post btw.
But yes some places will do repairs as long as you havent damaged them too bad. Just call around and you can get some quotes.
I spoke with one place i have been to before to repair gutter damage... he said $85 per rim. He warned me that they may crack (95 out of 100 do), in which case he will charge me nothing.
repairing alloy rims is usually illegal when it's anything more than just polishing out gutter rash.
it's perfectly OK to keep a buckled spare rim in the boot though. you can keep a bicycle wheel there too, it's when you put it on the hub that the cops would become interested![]()
try "mr mag", morley, W.A. he may have an odd one.

Food for thought, you could possibly even call the council and put a complaint in that the road has caused your wheels to be damaged. Most councils pay up from what I've heard, and it's their own fault for not maintaining the roads.
I think someone on this site has done it before, not exactly sure on the procedure, whether you get it repaired then send them the bill or give them a letter of intent first or what. But it's an option if you want to get 2 new rims.
Even though you intend to use the buckled wheel as a spare, 'Murphy's Rule' states that it's probably inevitable that you will have to use it. A buckled wheel (if it's bad enough) will likely wreck your rear axle and possibly the diff. Apart from that if spotted by Police you WILL be put off the road. Get rid of it and just get a steel wheel to use as a spare if you can't find or afford a replacement. Surely someone will be upgrading or replacing SS wheels sooner or later.
I had to have some of my rims repaired, a good wheel/machine shop can do it, they can also repair cracks (legally i believe). there was an article in street machine last year about it.
I got mine repaired at Promac (Newcastle area) and they only charged me $55 a rim (about a 1inch buckle)
Hey ive buckled my wheel does anyone know i can fix it? In melbourne south eastern suburbs would be great
You're better off going on ebay and picking up a steely as a spare, cost next to nothing and keeps you safe.

^ with what was said above.
Ring the council and complain. Aim Is to be a REAL big pain. They will then replace your wheels.

Take a picture of your car next to the pothole and hassle the council.. Keep going until they pay up
