    No its NOT true, however if you state on your insurance that you do have a alarm or immoboliser and you don't have one then they may not pay you out.
    We got rep back, yaaay!

    NOT true. Like JD said never lie, also if you tell them you have immob and alarm (and actually do!) you may get a reduced premium.

    It can also depend on what car you have. There was a time there when the Subaru WRX was a popular car to be stolen. As a result, at least one insurance company wouldn't insure them unless an anti theft device was fitted.

    Also note that you will be asked these questions for a police report:

    * Was it locked?
    * Keys in the car? (actually inside the car, key hanging on the hook in garage doesn't count)
    * Anti theft device fitted? (This can be anything designed to prevent theft, i.e. club lock, alarm, immobiliser)
    * Was the device operating?

    Believe it or not I have seen reports that have said 'no' to being locked and alarms etc operating and 'yes' to there being keys in them. That I recall was a brand new ute that was left running outside a shop while the owner ducked inside to grab lunch.

    You can pick them up for as little as $100-150. But spend the money and get a half decent one.

    When I worked for a Servo Station a few years ago, the mechanic left a customers car un-locked with keys in the ignition, outside overnight when the place was closed. The car was stolen and the mechanics insurance paid out because he was covered for negligence
