    Default Sorry people.. neons

Sorry to post on a completely OVERPOSTED area, but I got fed up reading arguments over the legalities of these things. Can or can't I put a set of underbody green neons on my silver ute, provided i have the tubes completely hidden so only the glow can be seen? Many think so, but then a fair few just like to hear what they want to.
    Thanks

I believe (legal side of things) you can only have the neons switch on whilst the car is parked.

although it is illegal to drive around with the under body neons switched on on public roads.

..alot of commodore owners will probably dis-own you

not even worth the hassle then. What about green parker lights?

VicCop explained this really well the other day, the way i understood it was that aslong as its not an emergancy colour (red or blue) and the tube isnt seen then that is fine.
All standard fitted lights, including parkers must remain the same colour, im pretty sure. Green parker bulbs will look gay anyway,

Yeah i read that, though i'm pretty sure that being in NSW there's probably some stupid rule that prohibits the use of them... Maybe i should go down to the police station and gain a reputation as a respectful young driver

Why though? I still don't get why people do it.... it makes you car look like some stray gay float from the Mardi Gras.

You can only have certain colors emitting light from certain angles etc. Read the ADR's and local laws.

They are legal to have with ****LOADS of guidelines.

Sorry if i've raised a problematic question, but what about making a thread thats STICKIED so that everyone sees it before they ask these questions?
Ie LINKS to the relevant ADR's for each state - might have been done before but i'm sorry i lost my patience after searching through too many fights over it.

sounds quite good. I've spent roughly 2 hours looking through all that stuff for anything related to neons. No luck though..

VicCop answered your question, the answer was ILLEGAL to use neons/coloured park lights, you are allowed to fit them just not allowed to use them.

from my understanding and from what we deal with at work.....

all headlights must omit clear/white light
all park lights must omit clear/white light
all indicators must omit amber/orange light
all rear direction/stop lights must omit red light
all reverse lights must omit clearwhite light

NO OTHER COLOURED LIGHTS ARE ALLOWED

the other problem besides emergency colours, Red means back of vehicle, clear means front of vehicle.

if your serious, very ILLEGAL. you are not allowed to alter a number plate in anyway shape or form let alone have a UV light omitting from your car, you'd be pulled over straight away.. wouldnt bother

friend of mine cut all the edges off his plates to make them look like those narrow ones, he phoned his local police station first, and they said it was fine.

anyway, like I said, I'll probably do it anyway.

Didn't VicCop say you can have neons under the car and use them, as long as they're not emergency colours.
