ok so my car is booked in for next saturday to get sprayed, im 99% sure all is well we did the guide coat and blocked the car back, a few minor touch ups to fix and thats it. a few edges got bare metaled and a few scratches and low spots have been revealed
What I was wondering is if anyone else has done this, thought everything was perfect and later discovered it wasn't, i'm after advice now before it's too late.
any imperfections will be visible once sprayed. make sure it's perfectly rubbed down with 1200 or so grade paper.
i've sprayed stuff but could never get it right. preparation is everything. it's an art.
look especially around where you know the imperfections exist.
Always happens, I can spend hours on a part only to paint it and see one tiny crack or dint that I missed. Being me I always fix it/remove it and spray it again. It just makes for a better job.
It’s good that you primed, guide coated and blocked the car so the paint should come out sweet due to you doing it that way. Its only until you've got clear on the car that you'll pick up little things.
It is getting painted a dark or light colour?
F118 rubens red - it's a dark color
thanks for the replies everyone, i'll soldier on.
yeah its a metallic with a touch of pearl, ok i'll go over it another 2 times to make that quotaThanks Rod
will do, I'll chuck a few up of it in primer and guide coated and stuff too.
ok it all went to **** today, the roof and bonnet turned out to be borked, lucky me, the boys at work stayed back untill seven and helped me fix it.
Must be my shout for bourbons on friday.
What was wrong, found unexpected damage on the last two panels we blocked back,
Luckily I work with 3 panel beaters two of which also are qualified sprayers, we have finally worked it out, good group at my work.
i'f it's not ready I will cancel, but I will still feel obligated to deliver a slab of beer to the sprayer, hes been pretty helpfull.
Sounds like it will look a million bucks when it's rolled out the door ready to hit the streets, can't wait to see a pic mate!

Yeah I hope so, the guys at work seem to think it will look a million bucks, but I have to ask for an orange peel finish (similar to most new cars) as it will be more forgiving then a mirror finish.
as it stands the car is readyt o spray, the two (brand new) bars need a light scotch pad rub and a clean and thats it.
Dunno thats what I was told, having been a house painter myself I know we house painters would refer to an orange peel finish as being like stipple ona wall, which is rough and would look crap in gloss, which is why rollers with a heaped pile arn't used on doors and why we lay off our enamel. apparantly its a good finish, but not a mirror finish.
Best I can do seeing as i'm not a sprayer, I believe you are.
orange peel will hide any ripples more but you will still see them
i think i'll let the sprayer do whatever he wants, unless he wants burn it :P
Yeah mate, spray painter i amMan you never WANT orange peel. Orange peel looks **** even if the panel is dead straight. Go for ulitmate gloss. Flat smooth with no dust and no dry spots is what your after.
Doesnt matter if the car is more ripply then ripplys believe it or not, always go for the best finish![]()
Just sounds like the sprayer is trying to cover his ass when it turns out to be a sub-standard respray. No doubt it will still look **** hot in the pics, but in person will be a different story if this is the spray painters take on things.![]()
nah the people who told me this are not the people spraying it.
The car looks good, infact better then ever.
Thanks everyone it's been a long task but i'm SOOOOOO happy now.
patience man, i'm at my girlfriends and the cable for my camera is at home, i'll post em up soon, probably tommorow, before and after all the pieces go back on.
