Interstate rego transfer
Hey guys, i am going to look at a HSV on monday, it looks to be pretty much what i want overall, the bloke will supply another 12 months rego and a roadworthy, except the fact that it's currently registered under QLD rego.
What is involved in getting it registered under VIC rego? Any extra costs at all? Or would the bloke just need the standard transfer form and when he goes to put another 12 months rego on it, will it automatically be changed to VIC rego?

If you are transporting it down and not driving it i would cancel the QLD rego and just get it all done down here.I dont think the QLD rwc would be able to be used in Vic.Best to ring Vic roads on Monday.

No such thing as an interstsate transfer.. you will have to have the rego cacelled and then get the whole RWC and then REGO done down here for it to be vaild..
Had the same issue witha car that i wanted to get from canberra... would have needed to have the canberaa rego cancelled and then organise for the RWC and new registration to be done in vic.
Not really worth buying interstate unless you really REALLY want the car!
Keep in mind that QLD seem to be pretty laxed with the RWC thing do i would be sceptical... could cost you alot if the car is dodge...

Where did he say the car was in Queensland? He said it had Queensland registration.

If the car is registered in qld with a VIC roadworthy then get it...
sorry, i auto-assumed again that it was a qld roadworthy...
Cancel rego and then re-register it with VIC. Easy done... Will cost a little more but not that much. Maybe he can cover that for you.

I just did this with a NSW car being REG'd in QLD.
In EVERY state, if you own a vehicle with foreign plates, you have to:
1) surrender old plates (cancellation of old rego is implied)
2) provide a new, current-to-state RWC. (issued in the state you wish to rego in)
3) apply for NEW registration, NOT a transfer
4) provide proof of transfer of ownership, i.e. receipt of sale from QLD, or completed rego transfer form from NSW, etc.
5) make contact with Queensland Transport (or the relevant prior state of registration) and provide them with your proof of plate surrender, requesting the remaining registration refund to be sent to you by cheque.
So yeah, it's no different to registering an unregistered car. Interstate rego and RWC counts for nothing. Why? Because states like NSW have annual RWC requirements, and their roadworthies only cost $33. They are far less thorough than QLD or VIC. And again, a QLD RWC is far less thorough than a VIC RWC, because Queensland Transport doesn't do random vehicle inspections unlike Vicroads.
In fact, when I registered my Statesman up here last week, they didn't even go out to the inspection bay to verify the VIN or Engine number. They're really not that interested.

Nearly had a VS Manta today, except the guy wasn't willing to transfer the rego over to Vic, and for me to do it, would cost me another $1k, because the QLD rego on this Manta runs out in a few weeks. Transfer fee is $400, plus fresh rego on it $560, plus stamp duty and extra fee's about $400. He was being stubborn, so to stick it up him, i didn't buy it. I knew he needed the cash too. Which ****es me off, he needs the money, yet he is stubborn on his price for it.
Go figure lol. Oh well, the hunt continues, which is ok, it gives me another few weeks to add a few more grand onto my existing amount. A little more never hurts.

LOL, of course i knocked it down, i'm not thoooopid, that's why i told him to shove it where the sun don't shine. He was being very stubborn. Good luck to him and the sale of his car though
I may as well add to it and get something even nicer. No big deal. There will always be HSV's for sale
