Default Starting 5L for 1st time in 6 months??

hey guys, ive just returned home from a 6month holiday overseas and i am planning on starting my VR 5L for the 1st time in 6months.

Is there anything that u guys suggest i should do before i kick her in the guts?
I was thinking about draining the oil before starting it up and let it drain for a day or so considering it will be quite thick and then throw a new filter and fill her up again. The battery has been disconnected the whole time so touch wood it should be fine. Other then the oil, i will top the fuel up with some fresh fuel, check all my fluid levels and thats all i can think off.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Have done this a couple of times. Just throw in new oil and filter. Fill the oil filter with oil then screw it on (gets some oil into the pump). I did this a couple of times to avoid having to prime the oil pump.

Took a little bit to get oil pressure, but apart from that it was alright.

Definately prime the oil filter....Holden V8's are notorious for not picking up oil after being sat for long periods of time! If it doesn't get oil pressure (there is a chance it won't) you will need to pull the oil pump off and grease it up....

All went well guys, filled the oil filter up and put some new oil in the ol girl, hooked up the battery and started up 1st kick. coughed and farted a lil bit but after a few seconds she was purring like a kitten.

only problem is now, i put my drivers side window down and it didnt come back up again, tested the switch with a test light and all seems to be ok. so looks like ill be pulling apart my door and checking the power window motor. grrrrrr..

    thanks for your help ppl.

Or just overfill the engine with oil to ensure the pump is below the oil level
Fire it up for long enough to see the oil light go out
The extra oil is great for splashing around the bores etc
Then drain out the oil and fill it to the right level
Saves having to take the pump off
Stop looking for the Potholes and sit back and Enjoy the Ride
