im talking about cars in general... ill be buying a vt once i learn about cars and performance upgrades, this will help me choose a car, not sure what series/model
just go nuts reading stuff on the forum guys. there's like years and years of threads about all sorts of stuff - some helpfull, so not-so-helpfull. but just reading up about things you want to know is a good start.
once you buy a certain model, go buy the workshop book for that model and read over that. it'll tell you everything about your car, from the specs and service info to how to strip and then rebuild the whole damn thing.
Quagmire: My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.

yer ill be buying the VT/VX manual this week, but it still wont awnser question like, how do cylinders work...
I found this website which gives diagrams of how engines/brakes/gearshifts al work...
howstuffworks works, then go to auto, its really helpful...
I learnt almost everything I know off this and other forums, and by not being afraid to go out and have a go at things myself.
When you get a car it is well worth going out and buying a repair manual for it. This will cover almost everything you will need to know

Yeah for the broad spectrum of how cars work in general something like how stuff works is a good start.
When i first signed up here i didnt really even know how to service my own car let alone performace mods etc but reading some of the threads about exhuasts and stuff is a good start to get you on the basic mods.
When it comes to the hand on experience learning, definallty grab a gregory's manual and you can read about and try servicing the car yourself, start doing to the basic stuff like that and youll start picking things upp from other people in the car scene, ive learn a fair bit from guys on cruises etc.
Best way to do it, is to buy a Commodore, a Gregorys/Haynes, some good tools, and then wait for stuff to start breaking. That's how I learnt everything I know to date, by fixing stuff that went wrong![]()

Workshop manuals are a good place to start for your current car, car communities like this one and most others are generally helpfull too, and if you duck into autopro and autobarn they can be pretty helpfull if you ask the right questions, even having a mechanic you can talk too is a bonus.
failing that keep reading up on those links above, and never be afraid to ask any questions here, you can PM me if you want, i'll try to answer any questions that I can.
Good to see two more people have converted.
Just be careful, because places like Autopro/Autobarn/Repco can give botch advice too
I find the best/most informed customer service comes from BursonsGood prices too.

Bursons and Sprint FTW, they know what there on about, (most of the time) if you keep going there for small things and make friends with the guys you can get discount, i have a mate up at ford, Yes ford, and he gets me cheap parts from sprint and bursons its awsome.

hahaha, I'll retire to the garage to continue work on the stato ^__^ This also answers the question presented by this thread. The best place to learn about cars, is your garage.
